Netflix’s thriller-drama is not being renewed for season two after an underwhelming first season. ‘Chambers’ featured an interesting premise and talented actors but could not maintain the attention of viewers.

After some less-than-favorable reviews, Netflix has decided to not bring their Netflix original series Chambers back for another season. The show featured Uma Thurman, Tony Goldwyn, and newcomer Sivan Alyra Rose in leading roles surrounding a supernatural type of story.

Variety reported the news of the cancellation.

Chambers sees a young girl, Sasha (Rose), receive a heart transplant after she suffers a heart attack. What she finds out in a mysterious fashion is where the heart comes from and what resulted in its original owner’s death.

Sasha learns that the heart she now has in her chest belonged to Becky, daughter of Nancy (Thurman) and Ben (Goldwyn). The grieving parents begin an extremely odd relationship with Sasha and this leads to more revelations of Becky’s death.

This all sounds extremely interesting, but most critics agree that the show failed to deliver on the conclusion to the mystery. The ten-episode series left many questions unanswered and maybe the creators thought a second season was coming. The slow pace maybe could have worked more effectively as a movie with some more impactful storytelling.

Once again, there’s a show that does not meet the hidden standard of Netflix’s original programming. Chambers joins the long list of canceled programs from this year alone.  Hopefully, this will open up the creator of the show, Leah Rachel for more opportunities to tell stories. Netflix would be wise to continue their relationship and create more projects.

It’s not necessarily surprising that Netflix canceled this show. More often, they’ve been canceling shows after one season that don’t generate a lot of buzz, and unfortunately, this series is one of those shows.

It’s interesting that a series with Thurman and Goldwyn wouldn’t generate more buzz at Netflix, but it just didn’t live up to the hype.

Many times, when Netflix cancels one of their shows, there’s a swell of support for the show to be picked up by another network. We’re not really seeing that with Chambers yet.
