If there’s one thing that summertime is all about, it’s blockbusters. Watching old ones, heading out to the theater to see new ones, and curling up in the comfort of your own home to stream one of the all-time greats from one of the all-time great directors. Steven Spielberg’s A.I: Artificial Intelligence returns to Netflix this month to kick off summer with a nostalgic blockbuster. And it’s just one of the robot-centric films coming to your watch list in June.

Based on the short story called “Supertoys Last All Summer Long” by Brian Aldiss, A.I.: Artificial Intelligence stars Haley Joel Osment as David, the first robot boy programmed with the capacity to love. Cybertronics employee Henry Swinton (Sam Robards) and his wife Monica (Frances O’Connor) adopt David into their family, but his differences make it difficult for him to assimilate into human life. He then explores where he fits in with the world as a robot.

A.I.: Artificial Intelligence comes from director Steven Spielberg, who needs no introduction or explanation. Upon release, the film received mixed to positive reception from critics, leading to its respectable 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. A.I. was also a modest box office hit, bringing in a worldwide total gross of $235.9 million against a $100 million budget. The film also scored two Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Original Music Score. It’s a surefire classic and a throwback to video rental store days you should revisit this June.
