Lucifer showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich have an “awesome” season 5 in the works. Now, we just have to wait for Netflix to renew the series for another season.

If Netflix renews Lucifer for season 5, it will be “awesome,” according to showrunners Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich. The pair of showrunners spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the end of Lucifer season 4 and shared a few thoughts about the new season.

To be clear, Henderson wasn’t just saying that Netflix renewing the Netflix original series for season 5 would be “awesome,” although it most definitely would be. No, Henderson was hinting that they already have an “awesome” season planned.

While they might just know the direction they want to go, Henderson and Modrovich and the rest of the writers have a clear idea moving forward with this show. You don’t do what they did in the season 4 finale if you don’t have an idea to continue this story in another season.

Entertainment Weekly asked about the future of the series and how they plan to bring back Lucifer. And, this is how Henderson responded, via EW:

"We have a lot of exciting ways, and one way in particular, to do it that launches an awesome, awesome season 5. We did spend some time digging into what we think can be season 5. We even have the first scene [of season 5], which is one of my favorite things we’ve ever come up with [laughs]."

That’s right, they even have the first scene of the season 5 already mapped out. It’s great to see these great storytellers campaign for their series. So far, fans have been responsible for saving Lucifer, but it seems that has pushed the showrunners to tease a good season they have in the works.

After Henderson answered the question, Modrovich also shared the process that goes into making decisions about continuing stories and changing directions in new seasons. Check out his answer below, via EW:

"Oh my god, so exciting! Overall, when we approach a new season, and this sort of speaks to your last question about Eve, we really try to ping it in a completely different direction. If everybody is speculating on one thing, we just try to think as a bats—t as we can, as outside of the box as possible, so that people don’t get bored, so we don’t get bored. We do have an idea. It’s an idea that when it came up in the room, we went, “Oh god, that’s crazy.” Then the more we talked about it, the more we went, “and brilliant.”"

Now, all we are waiting for is Netflix to renew the show for a new season!

We’ve already shared why we think Netflix will renew Lucifer for season 5, and it’s great to know the showrunners have a clear plan in place when they discuss the next steps for the series with the streaming service.

If the season was received like we expected it to be, Netflix will renew Lucifer for season 5 within a few weeks from the release date. That renewal could come anytime in the next few weeks. When that happens, the writing team will be back at work on season 5, and then we’ll see season 5 next spring.
