Netflix announced subscription prices were going up in January. If your Netflix subscription price increased this year, it’s not going up again.

Recently, CNN reported Netflix was notifying subscribers that prices were going up in May 2019. Even though these increases were announced in January, fans and subscribers weren’t happy to hear about these increases.

Some fans were quick to point out they had already started paying the higher prices. And, that’s because Netflix implements these increases over a matter of months rather than at one time.

There have been a lot of misconceptions about Netflix subscription prices going up, and that’s largely to do with how Netflix raises prices after they announce those price increases. Let’s go over the timeline.

Netflix announced prices were going up in January 2019. At that point, the price of a new Netflix subscription went up to $9 (basic), $13 (standard), and $16 (premium). In other words, if you became a Netflix subscriber on or after that date, you signed up for a plan at the $9/$13/$16 price points.

At the time, Netflix announced those increases in subscription price would be rolled out over the next few months for current subscribers. Netflix doesn’t raise the price for current subscribers at one time; they roll out those increases over several months, as mentioned above.

In February, Netflix subscribers started seeing those price increases, and that continued through March. And, now here we are at the beginning of April.

After letting Netflix Life readers know the prices were going up next month, we saw a lot of readers think their subscription price was going up again. If your subscription price already went up this year, it’s not going up again.

Again: if the cost of your Netflix subscription went up this year, it’s not going up again.

From what I can gather, this should be the last group for the price increases to kick in. In May, all Netflix subscribers will be paying the same price for Netflix, respective of the three different subscription tiers.

I hope that makes sense and Netflix Life readers understand how Netflix raises prices a little better now. Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more news about Netflix and all their great shows and movies.
