Netflix is making more interactive content like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

More interactive shows and movies like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch are in the works at Netflix.

Netflix is going to make more Netflix original interactive content like Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, according to a report from Variety.

Variety is reporting Netflix VP of product Todd Yellin made the comments while presenting at a media conference in Mumbai. There’s really nothing to be surprised about here, but it is interesting to learn Netflix has already started exploring more possibilities for interactive content.

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch was a huge success for Netflix. It was a great guinea pig to see if the market was actually there for a movie like this, and I think Netflix found that, overwhelmingly, there is. Bandersnatch was the talk of social media for weeks and even a month after it was released at the end of 2018.

Because it’s Netflix, there are still people discovering the project for the first time and making their way through the story.

We didn’t get a lot of specifics from the report, so it’s something to keep an eye on moving forward. This is just another example of how Netflix’s experimentation in media and how it has opened a lot of doors for future growth.

Netflix was at the forefront of the DVD rental industry. They basically killed all video stores around the United States by mailing DVDs and Blu-rays. Then, they took streaming to a whole new level, and everyone followed suit. After the streaming service was successful, they started making their own shows with House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. Now, everyone is making their own content. It will be really interesting to see if Amazon and Hulu get in on the interactive content, too.

This is a great move from Netflix, as long as it doesn’t cost too much. I liked Bandersnatch, but I don’t think I want to watch most of my time that way. I think most people would agree with that. Luckily, I don’t think that will be Netflix’s plan.

I’m excited to see what Netflix can do with these interactive shows and movies in the future. As technology improves, the paths and possibilities through a show or movie could be infinite. That’s really exciting for those who want a personalized form of entertainment.
