Arrested Development season 5 review

In danger: Arrested Development

Number of seasons: 5

What it’s about: When George Bluth Sr. is sent to prison, his son, Michael Bluth, is forced to run the family real estate business. That means returning to Orange County, something that he never wanted to do.

Meanwhile, Michael is raising his children while trying to deal with the eccentricities and spoiled nature of his family. He wants to remain a good role model for George Michael Jr. but is that possible?

Why it’s in danger: This Netflix Original didn’t make the list of potentially canceled originals the first time. Yet, the more I look into it, the more I worry about it. With the second half of the fifth season dropping this month, the show is now in danger. And it’s all linked to the behind-the-scenes issues.

Jeffrey Tambor is one of the main characters but was in the middle of a scandal last year, one that saw him removed from his own Amazon Prime Original, Transparent. A lot of the issues came from the way the scandal was handled within Arrested Development, which could lead to some people choosing not to watch the newest episodes at all.

Only time will tell about this. After all, the creative team have admitted that there are storylines for the future.

Chances of being renewed: It’s clear that it’s the behind-the-scenes problems that are the issue right here. While Netflix isn’t afraid of controversy with the likes of Insatiable and 13 Reasons Why, it will still always look at the money made.

The chances of this renewal will lie squarely with the fans. Are there enough interested in watching? I’m on the fence with this one.
