Should be saved: Nightflyers

When it was canceled: Nightflyers was one of the first cancellations of 2019. Based on the novella by George R.R. Martin, it was supposed to be massive but something just didn’t quite work.

What it’s about: Nightflyers is about a group of passengers on a ship called the Nightflyer. It’s the most advanced ship in the year 2093 and now a group of shipmates are on the edge of the solar system in search for alien life. They’re going further than mankind has ever gone before, which leads to plenty of risk, drama, and danger.

One thing they all start to learn is that the dangers aren’t outside. True dangers lurk within the ship itself.

Why it needs to be saved: This show just wasn’t given the chance it should have had. Part of that was due to promotional material. If I hadn’t been at NYCC 2018, I wouldn’t have had any clue that it was on and that’s on SYFY. Surely, I’m not the only one.

The release of it was also odd. Rather than being released weekly, like most SYFY shows, Nightflyers was released daily at the start of December. That would immediately cause problems. Fans aren’t used to watching shows like that and they weren’t going to change their viewing preferences for the sake of SYFY doing something different.

With everything being stacked against it, this show desrves a second chance. The best way of doing that is by a streaming service, like Netflix, to pick it up. At least on Netflix, Amazon, and similar, full seasons dropping at the same time are expected!

Chances of it being saved: The Nightflyers cancellation did go under the radar. There hasn’t been much talk online about fans wanting it to be saved, which puts a lot against it in terms of Netflix picking it up. Despite it deserving a second chance, saving it likely isn’t going to happen.

However, it may depend on how the show does on Netflix UK and Ireland, where it is billed as a Netflix Original. That could be enough to save it for a second season.
