If you can believe it, there's still something Robert De Niro hasn't accomplished in his long and successful acting career: Television! The Academy Award winner hasn't ever played a series regular role in a television series until, well, now. De Niro plays the leading role in Netflix's upcoming political thriller limited series Zero Day, which officially has a release date.
Netflix revealed that Zero Day premieres on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, and it's sure to become of the biggest Netflix original series of the year. In the series, De Niro plays a former United States president, who's leading the Zero Day Commission's inquest into a deadly cyber attack on the country, all while grappling with the skeletons hiding in his own closet.
Check out the limited series' official synopsis via Netflix's press release:
"ZERO DAY is a limited series starring Robert De Niro as respected former U.S. President George Mullen, who, as head of the Zero Day Commission, is charged with finding the perpetrators of a devastating cyber attack that has caused chaos around the country and thousands of fatalities. As disinformation runs rampant and the personal ambition of power brokers in technology, Wall Street, and government collide, Mullen’s unwavering search for the truth forces him to confront his own dark secrets while risking all he holds dear."
As of late, Netflix has found overwhelming success with political and conspiracy thriller series like The Night Agent and The Diplomat. If you're a fan of Keri Russell's gripping political drama especially, you're not going to want to miss binge-watching Zero Day. Below, we're sharing more information about the series, including its episode count, cast, and more!
Zero Day begins streaming in February 2025
As mentioned above, Zero Day begins streaming worldwide on Netflix on Feb. 20, 2025 as one of the early hits in the new year. The limited series follows, one month later, the release of The Night Agent season 2 on Jan. 23 and one week after the series finale of Cobra Kai on Feb. 13. For those wondering, Zero Day's release falls on the week of President's Day.
Since it's a limited series, the episode count will naturally be shorter than your average streaming series season, also because of it's all-star cast. Zero Day contains six episodes, which makes for a breezy weekend binge-watch that will have you on the edge of your seat. Each episode will be about an hour in length, not unlike the aforementioned The Diplomat's second season.
