You are surely a big fan of Glenn Howerton, right? You loved him in Fargo, Blackberry, and, of course, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. But you might even like him more from his role on A.P. Bio as Jack Griffin. But let's be real. Howerton made his bones on Sunny and he remains an integral part of the show.

The weird thing is that during the recent crossover episode, the Sunny folks did with Abbott Elementary, Howerton (or Dennis on Sunny), Dennis is hardly anywhere to be found. He shows up for about two minutes and says he does not like the way the documentary about the school is being filmed and walks away. We see him only for a split second later on.

Another odd bit is that the rest of the Sunny characters were written well for the Abbott Elementary episode, almost like all the characters involved had always been on the same show. The character of Charlie, played by Charlie Day, even had a learning opportunity in the episode. This was a play on Charlie not being able to read well, but done is a very Abbott way.

Where was Glenn Howerton's Dennis on the Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover?

Part of the issue with Dennis not having a bigger role is that those who are devotees of It's Always Sunny know Dennis can be a bit creepy. Having him run around an elementary school unseen by cameras made the character seem even more unsettling, but never in a way that would have been done on Sunny. So what was the point?

As it turns out, Howerton's schedule was the reason he was not more involved in the episode. And much of that reason has to do with a new Netflix series that is still being filmed. The show is called Sirens and is a dark comedy that also stars Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, and Kevin Bacon. There is not yet any firm release date on the release.

The show films in New York City, while both Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia do most of their filming in Los Angeles. Howerton had to fly back and forth for the filming of the Abbott episode and was only available for half a day, according to an interview Abbott Elementary executive producer Patrick Schumacker gave to Entertainment Weekly.

Do not worry, fans of Dennis. The characters of Abbott Elementary will be crossing over to a Sunny episode later in the year. The character of Dennis is expected to have a much bigger role on that show.
