After a long wait since the second season dropped on Netflix, we finally have exciting news to share about Wednesday season 3. It's been a long wait for updates as the cast and crew got back to work on the next season following the release of season 2 last fall, but we're even closer to returning to Nevermore Academy and hitting the road with Wednesday and Uncle Fester.
Wednesday season 3 officially began filming in February 2026, with production taking place in Dublin, Ireland and parts of Paris in France throughout the year. On Sept. 30, Netflix announced that production wrapped on the highly anticipated new season. The streaming service made the reveal by gifting fans their first look at season 3 with a snap of Jenna Ortega in character.
Netflix gives first look at Jenna Ortega in Wednesday season 3
In the photo released by Netflix, Ortega dons the signature Wednesday Addams braids and bangs and wears a black sweater with white stripes as she sits in front of a typewriter at a desk. It's unclear where Wednesday actually is in the photo, but she appears to be in some sort of gray stone building, with the only light being the table lamp on her desk. She looks ahead and not on the page before her.

Netflix's first-look image is the first official glimpse fans have received of Wednesday season 3, though there have been plenty of paparazzi and fan photos from outdoor shoots in Paris. There's no doubt that, since there's still so much time before the episodes arrive on our watch lists, we will be reading into this single image of Wednesday in an attempt to glean any further details.
One of those details will surely be whether Wednesday season 3 is intended to be the final season of the series. Earlier this summer, Ortega made an offhanded comment about the show "coming to a head" with season 3, which many took to mean that she was alluding to the hit Netflix series ending with its third season without making a formal announcement.
Wednesday season 3 is coming sometime in 2027
Upon announcing the end of the Wednesday season 3 production cycle, Netflix made no indication that this will be the final season of the show in its press release. If an announcement is to come, it will clearly come at a later date, but it's also possible that the third season won't be the final season and Wednesday will be back for a fourth season, which would inevitable be the last hurrah.
Beyond the speculation about the show's future, the other biggest question surrounding Wednesday will be when the third season will premiere on Netflix. Thankfully, the streamer has already confirmed the season 3 release window for sometime in 2027, which means we can for sure expect the new episodes to arrive next year. But there's still a fair amount of patience required.
Following the conclusion of filming, an extensive period of post-production will commence, which is a months-long process that includes editing, special effects, dubbing, and other movie magic to prepare the episodes for their worldwide streaming release. Being so, Wednesday season 3 likely won't release on Netflix much before late summer or fall 2027, around season 2's August bow.
Stay tuned for even more release updates on Wednesday season 3!
