Netflix is known to have some pretty great teen shows, and Forever is definitely one of them. After a successful first season, it didn't take long at all for the streaming giant to renew the hit teen series for a second installment. I mean, it basically took only a week from the first season's release. However, there had been pretty much radio silence on the upcoming installment since the renewal announcement.

The only real update we had was in December 2025, when series creator and showrunner Mara Brock Akil revealed that the writer's room was open for Forever season 2. While that was great news, it still wasn't quite enough to satisfy the restless anticipation of viewers who had fallen in love with the story of Keisha and Justin.

But that changes today. Today, Forever season 2 has received an update that will surely send fans into a frenzy. We finally have a concrete idea of when the cameras might start rolling!

Forever season 2 will reportedly start filming in May 2026

That's the rumor going around! According to What's on Netflix, production for Forever season 2 is tentatively set to start on Friday, May 8, 2026. The news outlet stated that it learned this information through new production listings. It also reported that the second season will be mainly filmed in Los Angeles, California, and Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

For those who watched the first season, these locations should not come as a surprise. Los Angeles is where Forever is set, and the first installment also saw Keisha and Justin spend some time in Martha's Vineyard with Justin's family. So, it makes perfect sense that the production could return to these familiar settings.

However, we are surprised to learn that Washington, D.C. wasn't included in the mix. The first season ended with Keisha and Justin graduating from high school and Keisha deciding to attend Howard University. Howard is located in Washington, D.C.

Perhaps the cast and crew will find creative ways to depict Keisha’s college life without physically filming on location. This happens all the time in television and film. Or, maybe the second season will open with her returning home to Los Angeles for summer break or something like that.

But again, this filming start date is just a rumor. Neither Netflix nor the show's creative team has said anything about production starting on May 8. Until an official announcement is made, fans should take this news with a grain of caution.

However, we wouldn't be surprised if filming actually starts sometime in May. The cameras reportedly started rolling on the first season in April of 2024, so a May start for season 2 would line up perfectly with the show’s usual production timeline. What we do know is that the cast appears to be gearing up for production.

Michael Cooper Jr., who plays Justin in the romantic teen drama, recently shared a video on his Instagram page of him with the creator and some of the other crew. Sure, he could just be hanging out with the team. But it's the video's caption that really caught our attention. The caption reads, "Forever Season Two [2x eye emoji] #michaelcooperjr #marabrockakil #reginaking." I don't know about you, but that seemed like a hint!

Fingers crossed, this May filming rumor turns out to be true. This would be really exciting for fans!
