Virgin River season 7 receives an exciting update (but there’s a brutal catch)

Few shows capture the heart quite like Virgin River. Since its debut in 2019, the small-town Netflix drama has become the ultimate comfort watch. That's why it’s no surprise that fans have been dying for news about the highly anticipated Virgin River season 7. I don't know if you've noticed, but we haven't seen a brand-new installment this whole year. That's weird! Why? Well, since the show's debut, a new season of the romantic drama has come out every year.

Season 6 was released on Netflix back in 2024, so shouldn't Virgin River season 7 have arrived by now? Or, at the very least, shouldn’t we have heard something about a release date? So, here's the thing. We do finally have an update on the seventh season's release, so that's good news. However, there's a catch that will likely leave fans frustrated.

Virgin River season 7 officially set for release on Netflix in 2026

Unfortunately, this is true. This news came from the Netflix CEO himself, Ted Sarandos. During Netflix's Q3 earnings call, Sarandos announced that 11 hit Netflix shows are confirmed to return with new seasons in 2026. Among them was Virgin River. Seeing as though the drama series is currently in its seventh season, this means Virgin River season 7 won’t be arriving until next year.

While it's great that we now have a better idea of when to expect the new installment, the wait is still longer than fans are used to. After years of yearly releases, this marks the first major gap between seasons. It’s going to be hard for fans to stay patient after that jaw-dropping cliffhanger at the end of season 6.

If you recall, Mel and Jack finally got married and might possibly be adopting a child. It's been confirmed that Virgin River season 7 will explore the honeymoon phase of their married life, so that should be exciting.

However, the last moments of the season 6 finale saw a tense and mysterious cliffhanger involving Charmaine. She was missing after failing to show up for wedding preparations, and when Jack went to check on her the next morning, he discovered signs of a break-in at her house. The finale ended with him finding something horrifying in the nursery, leaving fans anxiously wondering about her fate and whether Calvin, the father of her twins, might be involved.

It'll be interesting to see how this storyline unfolds in season 7. Will Charmaine be okay, or is she in serious danger? We're keeping our fingers crossed that we won't have to wait too long for Virgin River season 7. An early 2026 release would make the most sense, but we'll just have to wait and see.
