Netflix likes Vanessa Kirby, and that is a very good thing. After being part of the cast for The Crown (Kirby played Princess Margaret) and 2020's Pieces of a Woman. Kirby is set to star in her third project for the streamer. At some point this year, Night Always Comes will be released only on Netflix. The cast alone seems to make it worth watching.

The movie is based on a book by Willy Vlautin about a woman in her 30s who is struggling financially. She attempts to buy her family home and only has a short time to close the deal. She has asked her mother for help, but her mother reneges which leaves the woman, Lynette (played by Kirby), to have to search for the funds.

While doing so she meets the best and worst kinds of people in the city where she lives, Portland, Oregon. Lynette makes a poor choice and her life begins to spin out of control. She is forced into dealing with her own past as she tries to save the home.

Night Always Comes starring Vanessa Kirby set to be released on Netflix this year

Or, as Netflix's Tudum puts it, "Risking everything to secure a future for herself and her brother, Lynette sets out on a dangerous odyssey in Portland: confronting her own dark past over the course of one propulsive night."

The film is produced by Gary Levinsohn, Ryan Bartecki, and Jodie Caron. But Kirby's own production company, Aluna Entertainment, is involved as well. In fact, the project is part of a multi-year first-look deal Netflix has with Kirby's company. The actor and producer's hope is that she can bring several complex women's stories to the streamer.

Besides Kirby, the cast includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Randall Park, Michael Kelly, Julia Fox, and Eli Roth. That is some pretty fine actors for the film, so the movie falling short of expectations is unlikely.

While Netflix announced earlier this year that the movie will be on the 2025 slate of new movies, there is no firm release date. Filming occurred in the middle of 2024, so the film should be nearly done, if not already done, with editing. In other words, maybe it won't be too long before we get to see this likely gem.
