There are some absolute monsters of shows that fans are waiting to hear more news about. The main news we all want is, of course, when we will see new seasons for some top shows. Netflix has just unveiled plans for their 2025 series plans, but what they haven't said is as important as what they did tell us.

Of course, we’ll all be glad to hear there are new seasons this year for the likes of Wednesday, Squid Games, and Emily in Paris, plus a whole load more. You’ll hear all the information we know about them here on Netflix Life for sure. But when you see the new list of 2025 shows it’ll leave you asking one big question.

‘What about..[insert here some of your favorites that aren't on that list]?’ That's where what Netflix hasn't said comes into play. As a general rule, it means if a series isn't on the Netflix 2025 list then we’ll all have to be patient until 2026.

Fans of top shows on Netflix will have to wait until at least 2026

In some cases, fans will possibly know that already. Bridgerton, for example, isn’t on the 2025 list, but expectations had already been managed when its showrunner Jess Brownell dropped that we should expect a two-year gap between seasons. But let's get back to that ‘What about?’ question and look at some other shows that it now looks likely we’ll also have to wait until 2026 to see more episodes.

We’ve already looked at Black Doves Season 2 and indications from writer Joe Barton and actor Ben Whishaw pointing to a Spring or Summer 2026 slot. There are other shows like Virgin River and Outer Banks where the most recent seasons only came out late in 2024. They aren't going to be able to turn things around and be ready for a 2025 release. Their absence on the Netflix update for the current year confirms that.

Guy Ritchie’s highly popular The Gentleman left us all keen for more. But that's another show that will be aiming at 2026 or later. Ritchie is already tied up with other work ruling out a 2025 return.

Netflix Manga and animation shows need more time

The intense and detailed work required to get some shows ready for screening, even after filming and production, rules out anything in 2025 for manga fans in respect of One Piece. The similar time constraints on animation will also hold back Avatar: The Last Airbender. But at least we do know One Piece has finished production and Avatar is expected to continue production through until this year's early summer months. This means 2026 at the earliest for both to be on our watchlists.

There’s also good news if you were wondering about Beef. Originally intended as a one-off limited series there was a longer creative process to get a follow-up underway. Filming has started now, though, so that should be on the menu next year, too.

As always, plans can change quickly and schedules may change. We’ll keep you up to date here with all the news as and when we have it. In the meantime, we’ll share our tips and suggestions on what to watch while you fill the gap until those 2026 shows arrive.
