Three Netflix Original series that were robbed at the 2025 Golden Globes

They were robbed!

The 2025 Golden Globes have come and gone, and the show was once again entertaining. To be fair, it needs to be. It will never have the importance of the Oscars or the Emmys, nor should it have.

That does not mean that the series, movies, and actors who won awards shouldn't be left off the proverbial hook. Of course, they got the votes to win, so maybe the process is the problem. Several Netflix shows, for instance, should have won awards at the Golden Globes that went elsewhere.

Below are three that deserved better fates. One Hulu-based program had enough momentum to take home many of the awards, but the Netflix series was as good and worthy. The last one of the list below might simply have been too violent for some.

Three Netflix Original series that deserved better fates at the 2025 Golden Globes

Baby Reindeer - Richard Gadd

Gadd was nominated in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television category, and his series, which he created, wrote, and starred in, won the award for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television, Gadd needed to win his individual award as well.

All the acting in the series is great, but the whole thing revolves around Gadd's character. If his performance is the least bit off, the show fails. The winner in the category was Colin Farrell for The Penguin and Farrell was fantastic, but this should have been Gadd's trophy.

Black Doves - Keira Knightly (and Ben Whishaw)

The night belonged to Hulu's Shōgun which won several major awards. It deserved to as the program is excellent. Still, the issue here is that Black Doves does not operate at the same level without the talents of Knightly pushing the show forward. She delivers enough nuance and danger that the show is kept from being steeped in mediocrity.

Whishaw was also excellent, though. Knightly is the biggest reason for the show's success, but without Whishaw's troubled character and the way the actor plays him, the scenes would not have been as riveting. Whishaw was not even nominated.

Squid Game

Again, Shōgun had a great evening and took home the award for Best Television Series - Drama, but few shows were as original and creative as Squid Game. Maybe some voters were turned off by the violence or the overdub of voices, but the show's visuals jumped off the screen.

Plus, the storylines and direction were excellent. There was no downtime, and one never quite knew what was coming next. Just like the Squid Game players themselves.
