Baby Reindeer: Everything to know about Richard Gadd's Netflix drama series

A new limited series titled Baby Reindeer is coming to Netflix this April, and it wasn't what we thought it would be at all. With a cute title such as Baby Reindeer, we thought it would be some sort of kid-animated series. Boy, were we wrong! Baby Reindeer is an upcoming British Netflix original series created by Richard Gadd. Gadd also stars in the show. He's a Scottish writer, actor, and comedian best known for writing the play Baby Reindeer. This sounds familiar, doesn't it? The new Netflix series is based on this award-winning play. In addition, Clerkenwell Films is the production company behind the show with Weronika Tofilska, Josephine Bornebusch, and Jon Brittain directing. Gadd, Petra Fried, Ed Macdonald, Matt Jarvis, and Wim De Greef are executive producers.

It's a comedy-drama series that can also be dark and dramatic at times. It consists of seven episodes and tells a captivating true story about a struggling comedian who finds himself in a warped relationship with a female stalker after showing one act of kindness to said woman. This suffocating obsession forces the comedian to face his deeply buried trauma.

Richard Gadd portrays the role of the struggling comedian, Donny Dunn. Seeing as though the show is based on Gadd’s own personal experience with a stalker, it makes sense why he would want to play the main character. Some of Gadd's other acting work includes roles in the TV shows Clique, Code 404 and Wedding Season.

Joining him in the cast is English actress Jessica Gunning, playing the role of the female stalker, Martha. She's best known for starring as Diane Pemberley in the dark comedy series The Outlaws. She also had roles in other TV shows such as Law & Order: UK, White Heat, Fortitude, Prime Suspect 1973, In the Dark and Back.

When is Baby Reindeer coming to Netflix?

The entire seven-episode series is slated to be released on Netflix on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. If you're in the Central time zone, you're looking at a release time of 2:00 a.m. CT on this date.

The show is rated TV-MA, meaning it's meant to be watched by mature, adult audiences only. It was given this age rating for strong language, nudity, sex, sexual violence, and substances. Given what this show is about, a TV-MA age rating seems appropriate.
