This surprise sci-fi trilogy is dominating Netflix’s Top 10 right now

Each month, Netflix announces its list of new release movies and shows for the following month, and that includes everything from originals to the acquired titles that viewers get to either relive or experience for the first time. In October 2025, there have been a number of exciting new titles added to Netflix, and one movie trilogy in particular has been experience a massive resurgence.

Whenever a series of movies is added to Netflix, whether it's The Twilight Saga or The Hunger Games movies or even the Shrek movies, there's no doubt that they will shoot to popularity. But those being some of the biggest movie franchises, their Netflix success shouldn't come as a surprise. This month, The Maze Runner trilogy was added to Netflix, and they are crushing on the top 10!

On Oct. 9, 2025, all three Maze Runner movies — The Maze Runner, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure — were added to Netflix, and it didn't take the dystopian sci-fi movies to shoot straight onto the top 10 most popular movies ranking on Netflix. As of Oct. 16, the movies are still currently ranked at No. 5, No. 6, and No. 9.

Based on the trilogy of young adult books of the same name by James Dashner, The Maze Runner stars Dylan O'Brien as 16-year-old Thomas, who awakens in an elaborate maze without any of his memories. He and a number of other teenage boys must work their way out of the dangerous and transforming maze while also navigating their newly formed society dubbed the Glade.

In addition to O'Brien, the main cast of all three films included Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Dexter Darden, and Patricia Clarkson. Will Poulter also starred in the first and third movies, while the sequels starred Aiden Gillen, Jacob Lofland, Rosa Salazar, Giancarlo Esposito, Barry Pepper, Katherine McNamara, and Nathalie Emmanuel. Wes Ball directed all three movies.

The Maze Runner first hit theaters in September 2014 with The Scorch Trials following one year later. and The Death Cure finally arriving in January 2018. The movies each received mixed to negative reception critics, grabbing 65%, 47%, and 43% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes respectively. But fans of the books adored the movies and turned them into modest box office hits that made a nearly cumulative $1 billion gross worldwide. It doesn't hurt that the movies boasted modest budgets.

Based on how the trilogy has been performing on Netflix, fans who have loved the movies for a decade and counting, and the books for even longer, have been revisiting the movies all over again. But if you managed to miss the movies in theaters back in the 2010s and have also missed their various appearances on streaming services, it's time to finally check them out for movie night.

There's no better time to watch a gripping dystopian sci-fi movie trilogy, seeing as spooky season has officially kicked off. The Maze Runner movies might not be the right choice to watch on Netflix on Halloween, but they should definitely be in consideration for a Friday night movie marathon! After all, who would turn down three adventurous movies starring Dylan O'Brien?
