There's more bad news for Gilmore Girls fans as Netflix confirms another removal

Gilmore Girls left Netflix earlier this year, but the streaming service has one more unfortunate update for fans.

This year more than ever, Gilmore Girls has really put the "where you lead, I will follow" sentiment to the test. Throughout the years, fans have watched the beloved comedy-drama series wherever it was available, and for over a decade, that happened to be Netflix. Well, in summer 2026, tragedy unfortunately struck with the sudden removal of all seven seasons.

Since the original classic series left Netflix at the end of June 2026, that has left the show's revival miniseries, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, the lone survivor on the streamer. But even back then, reports suggested that those four 90-minute episodes would also be yanked from the platformed, timed to its 10th anniversary. Netflix has officially confirmed the impending removal.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life leaving Netflix in November 2026

When Netflix announced the full list of new release movies and shows coming in November 2026, the streamer also revealed the titles that will be leaving, and that includes Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The miniseries will be removed from Netflix on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2026 in the United States and all global regions. This is the last call to watch revival on Netflix!

The removal comes exactly 10 years to the day of A Year in the Life's premiere on Nov. 25, 2016 and had been expected based on Netflix's deal with Warner Bros. Television. Despite being a Netflix original series, the revival had always been marked for an eventual removal, unless a new deal had been reached, which obviously did not happen given the original's departure this summer.

While fans have had differing reactions to A Year in the Life and have continued to pick apart the revival in the last decade, it's still an unfortunate loss. We never imagine Netflix originals will leave Netflix, but it's happening more and more. As much as some fans have wanted to forget like the revival happened (not this fan!), no one wanted it completely plucked from streaming.

Gilmore Girls remains streaming on Hulu (and Disney+ with a bundle subscription) and became available to stream on Prime Video following the Netflix removal. Given its ownership by Warner Bros. Television, there's no doubt HBO Max will eventually become the streaming home of the series. A Year in the Life doesn't yet have a new streaming home, but HBO Max seems like a safe bet (at some point).

HBO Max is set to release an official Gilmore Girls documentary with participation from creator Amy-Sherman Palladino and star/producer Lauren Graham. It's an inevitability that both the original series and the revival miniseries will also be available on the platform in conjunction with the documentary's premiere, which doesn't yet have a release date (but will hopefully be out next year, fingers crossed).

Until A Year in the Life secures a new streaming home, the miniseries has been released on its own DVD and Blu-ray sets and is also available as part of the recently released Gilmore Girls complete series Blu-ray box set. Don't worry, it's not going to suddenly, or ever, become lost media. Stay tuned for more updates on what the future holds for the series!
