Even though the end of the year is near, Netflix isn't slowing down a bit with bringing exciting new content to our watch lists. On top of the streamer's own original series and movies still to come before the calendar turns to 2025, there's still a few tricks up its sleeve by way of acquisitions. Another hit CBS procedural series will make its way to Netflix in December 2024.
According to a report from What's on Netflix, the first three seasons of The Equalizer will begin streaming on Netflix in the United States on Monday, Dec. 16. The series, which is led by Queen Latifah, hasn't been available to stream on another platform except Paramount+ since its premiere on CBS in 2021, but with a Netflix deal in place, its audience will definitely get bigger.
The crime drama procedural has enjoyed stable ratings for its entire run, making it one of the most popular shows on the small screen. While The Equalizer is currently airing its fifth season on CBS, only three seasons will be available on Netflix for now, though if past CBS shows on Netflix (S.W.A.T., NCIS, Young Sheldon) are any indication, more could drop in the near future.
What is The Equalizer series about?
Based on the CBS spy thriller series of the same name from the 1980s, as well as the film series of the same name starring Denzel Washington, The Equalizer stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall. As a CIA operative, McCall works as a vigilante of sorts with her team to help those who have nowhere and no one else to turn to get the justice they deserve. McCall's skills make her a formidable opponent.
In addition to helping others, McCall also raises her teenager daughter on her own and seeks "personal redemption." As various series synopses will tell you, McCall has a "mysterious background," and that's just another layer of the series for viewers to unfold as the case-of-the-week format tells action-packed stories about the team helping others.

The Equalizer cast (and why Chris Noth left the show)
Obviously, Academy Award-nominee and Emmy Award winner (she also has a Golden Globe and a Grammy, if you were wondering) Queen Latifah leads the cast. The supporting cast includes a few familiar faces, including Tory Kittles and Adam Goldberg. For most of the series, the main cast has remained unchanged, apart from one high-profile departure.
Here's The Equalizer's main cast:
- Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall
- Tory Kittles as Marcus Dante
- Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian
- Liza Lapira as Melody "Mel" Bayani
- Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah
- Lorraine Toussaint as Viola "Aunt Vi" Marsette
- Chris Noth as William Bishop
After the second season, Chris Noth was fired from the series following multiple sexual assault allegations leveled against the actor. Previously known for his work on Sex and the City and The Good Wife, Noth had been a main cast member for the first two seasons of The Equalizer until his character William Bishop *SPOILER ALERT* was killed off in a plane crash halfway into season 2.
If you have never watched the series before, you will have the chance to binge-watch 46 episodes on Netflix beginning on Dec. 16, but if you're already a fan, you can relive every exciting moment. The Equalizer season 4 and new episodes of season 5 are currently only available on Paramount+, though keep your fingers crossed they will end up on Netflix sooner rather than later (or never).
