Survival of the Thickest season 3 gets bittersweet filming update from Netflix

There's some exciting news to share about the Netflix original romantic comedy series Survival of the Thickest, but this particular updates is also going to hit fans right in the heartstrings. For the last time, filming has wrapped on the series ahead of the final season's release this year. See, bittersweet!

Netflix announced on Friday, Feb. 13 that Survival of the Thickest season 3 has completed production, sharing a collection of behind-the-scenes photos from set. In the photos, creator and star Michelle Buteau is seen holding a film slate and posing with her fellow cast members. The streamer shared the filming update on a graphic of a bulletin board and Mavis' designing supplies.

In the social media post announcing that the final season has wrapped filming, Netflix also promised that Mavis will be seeing us "soon." Earlier this year, Netflix confirmed that Survival of the Thickest season 3 would be released in 2026, though the streamer hasn't yet teased a potential release window for the last batch of episodes beyond the broader confirmation of this year.

Survival of the Thickest was previously renewed for season 3 in May 2025, just a couple months removed from the second season's release in March 2025. Netflix also confirmed that season 3 would be the final season, wrapping up the underrated comedy series will a punctuated run compared to some of its other popular, long-running original comedies.

Filming on Survival of the Thickest season 3 began in December 2025 and took place in New York City. Since the season will likely once again contain eight episodes, keeping in line with the first two seasons, filming wasn't expected to last very long, making its wrap in February 2026 right on target — even in spite of the frigid winter New York has been experiencing early this year.

Before the season began production, Netflix didn't offer much insight into what will be going down in Survival of the Thickest season 3, but we can imagine where Mavis' story will pick up after publicly calling out a fashion designer for not being size inclusive. She risked her own career to stand up for her morals, and later put on a game-changing fashion show in collaboration with the designer.

As always, Mavis' personal life also continues to be in disarray, especially after she followed Luca to Rome and later started catching feelings again for her ex. The final season could see Mavis continuing down this path or switching things up and following a new path. What's for sure is that Mavis and her friends will keep us laughing, surprised, and on their side until the very end.

Post-production will now commence on Survival of the Thickest season 3, which could last through the spring and lead to a summer or fall 2026 release on Netflix. Stay tuned for more news and updates about the final season!
