Don't worry: Black Doves season 2 has already been confirmed by Netflix

Before 2024 comes to close, Netflix dropped one more thrilling series for our binge-watching pleasure. Academy Award-nominated actress Keira Knightley leads the cast of the British spy drama Black Doves, which premiered on Dec. 5. It's one of the last new Netflix shows of the year that will have you on the edge of your seat until Christmas.

Taking place during Christmastime in London, Knightley stars as Helen Webb, a spy who's conveniently married to a politician. She shares political secrets with her organization, the Black Doves, but when Helen's secret lover gets assassinated, she teams up with an old friend to find the truth about who killed her lover and what it means for an overarching conspiracy.

After watching all six episodes of Black Doves, or maybe even before starting to watch the episodes, you might be wondering whether it's a limited series or if there's a possibility that there will be another season. Well, it's not a limited series, and there's already good news about the show's future: Netflix has renewed Black Doves for a second season. Check out what to know so far below!

Yes, Black Doves season 2 is happening!

Back in August 2024, before Black Doves even had a release date for its first season, Netflix announced the show's season 2 renewal at the Edinburgh TV Festival. The renewal announcement came as a surprise, mostly because no one had even watched the show yet and the streaming service hadn't measured viewership figures as they usually do.

It's a rare move for Netflix to renew a new series before it has even premiered or been consumed by viewers. Established series with loyal fanbases will often earn renewals for another season before their latest seasons have premiered, mostly recently Outer Banks and The Diplomat. But Black Doves is in rarified air by earning a pickup months before making its debut.

During the time of Black Doves season 2's announcement, and the show's premiere on Dec. 5, additional information about the forthcoming followup season has not be divulged by Netflix. The streamer hasn't confirmed an episode count for season 2, though it's likely to follow suit with season 1's six-episode order. Additionally, the second season's production status isn't known.

Because of its early renewal, Black Doves will likely be even more popular than it was already destined to be. These days, viewers are more likely to devote their time and energy into series they know will be back for more episodes rather than crossing their fingers that their new favorite show won't be canceled. Thankfully, you don't have to worry about Black Doves disappearing.
