Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice has been adapted for the small or big screen seemingly thousands of times. It is an easy crowd-pleaser, but the cast has to be just right. Of course, many actors have played Mr. Darcy, but few have been as iconic as Colin Firth's turn in 1995, for instance.
This is what Netflix needs to get correct when it releases its adaptation of Pride and Prejudice at some point in the future. The project is currently in pre-production, and none of the cast has officially been announced. According to Variety, though, a familiar face, especially if you like Apple TV's Slow Horses, could be taking on the role of Darcy.
Jack Lowden, who plays River Cartwright on the fabulous Apple TV series, is rumored to be in talks with producers about coming to do some work for Netflix. Does Lowden have the charisma needed to play the aloof, but good-hearted, Darcy? Maybe, but we have not truly seen him do that in a key role yet.

His Cartwright character is coolly intense, but that role is part of an espionage thriller. He was also part of a stellar cast for 2017's Dunkirk. There is no doubt about his excellent acting ability, but the question is, and what viewers will judge, is how good a fit he is for Mr. Darcy.
Daisy Edgar-Jones is another actor rumored to be part of the Pride and Prejudice cast. She is attached to the role of Elizabeth Bennet. Edgar-Jones was the lead in 2024's Twisters and featured in Where the Crawdads Sing. If she does get the role of Elizabeth, she would likely be fantastic.
Dolly Alderton will write the Netflix adaptation. She also wrote and produced the series Everything I Know About Love.
Clearly, there is no known release date for Pride and Prejudice on Netflix, as filming has not yet begun and the cast has not been officially announced. If and when the project comes to fruition, there is a good chance it will not be released until 2027.
