The new Netflix series Sirens is pretty good. The show revolves around Devon DeWitt and Simone DeWitt's relationship and individual lives. The sisters are played by Meghann Fahy and Milly Alcock, respectively. In episode one, Devon, though, makes clear she is not a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs.
In a conversation with Jose (Felix Solis), the two briefly discuss the merits of NFL football. Jose is a Miami Dolphins fan. Devon likes the Buffalo Bills. Neither likes the Chiefs.
The conversation is a simple one. Jose: "Are you a Bills fan?" Devon: "(Expletive) the Chiefs." Jose: "Yeah, (expletive) the Chiefs."
Sirens disses the Kansas City Chiefs on behalf of Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins fans
Of course, the issue is that the Kansas City football team has become a thorn in the side of both the Bills and the Dolphins over the last several years. The Chiefs are good and led by (most likely) future Hall of Fame quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The Dolphins have a good quarterback, too (Tua Tagovailoa), but he is often hurt.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen can't get past the Chiefs in the playoffs.
Of course, disliking a team that keeps winning important games is easy. While Kansas City was destroyed in the Super Bowl this year by the Philadelphia Eagles, at least the Chiefs have made the championship game five times in the last six seasons.
Sirens is based on a play by Molly Smith Metzler, who went to college in the north of New York. There is no word on whether she is a Bills fan (or a Dolphins fan), but she is at least aware enough to know that most of the known world doesn't like the Chiefs, is jealous of Kansas City, or both.
As far as the series itself, it's good. It's more like Bills good instead of Chiefs good. You'll be entertained, but it won't be the best series you have ever seen. But that doesn't matter to most, right?
We want to watch something we like, and you will like a Sirens cast led by Julianne Moore, Fahy, Alcock, Solis, Kevin Bacon, and Glenn Howerton. That is the same kind of roster that has made the Chiefs great in the football universe.
