Having a sexy series can be a tightrope to walk. If the creators overdo it, the show might seem like something we want to watch late-night on old Showtime, but not be artistically fulfilled. The best shows that have a lot of sexual tension also have great storylines elsewhere.
Five of the shows do that. Even without the sideway glances and tender brushes of touch, they would be worthy of watching. We don't need the sexual tension all the time. Heck, that makes it even better when it does happen.
Two other shows are one to avoid, at least if you are looking for something sexy. They might have some good moments but do not belong on a list of sexist shows on TV. Or, well...a streaming service.
Five of the sexiest shows on Netflix (and two that will fail to meet expectations)
Outlander
Watch! The reason this show is here is because of the way it approaches female sexuality. In other words, one does not have to do only what the man wants. Women have a say too. Plus, the chemistry between Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe is amazing. The storyline might be a stretch, but the acting and production make the show worth it.
Bridgerton
Watch! The first season is by far the best. Maybe because the whole thing is unexpectedly good. Sure, there is sexual tension all around, but even without that, the program is worth watching. The second season changes the focus of the featured characters by design (every season since has done the same), but there is something about the magic of the first season that makes for Netflix magic.
Virgin River
Watch! The name of the show is a bit ironic. There is nothing "virgin" about it really. The series gets more intense sexually as it goes along. The characters and situations make that make sense. That scene on the pool table between Brie and Brady, though? Definitely NSFW.
Young Royals
Watch! Not all sexual tension perfectly done has to be heterosexual. Such is the case with this series about a Swedish prince who enrolls in a boarding school and ends up meeting someone quite unexpectedly. You will feel like a better person for just watching this.
Sex, Love & Goop
Avoid! This is not a terrible series, mind you. But if you are looking for something that satisfies your thirst for sexiness, it doesn't quite reach that. In many ways, this is actually quite boring. Normal people attend sex therapy. Cool, but the drama is lacking.
Sex and the City
Watch! One of the true prime series of sexiness, and not just because of the four female leads, who are all great. We get a good look at modern relationships when men and women are equals. One does not impose their will over the other, but the meeting in the middle is the draw. Root for who you want, but everyone has a reason for who they are.
Gossip Girl
Avoid! This one gets weird. The show is not without entertainment value, and Blake Lively is wonderful, but there is a bent to get a bit too overdramatic. That turns into some unrealistic situations and that detracts from the show overall. Still, everyone is attractive, and yada yada yada.
