Ransom Canyon season 2 reveals what happened to Davis (and why Eoin Macken left)

After a longer wait than some fans might have liked, Ransom Canyon season 2 has finally made its premiere on Netflix. The new season might be shorter than its debut run, but there's no shortage of drama in this small Texas ranching town, as a pregnancy, a proposal, and big secrets will leave your jaw to hit the floor—and that's all just in the first episode.

But before the season even began streaming on Netflix, Ransom Canyon season 2 delivered some shocking twists that we didn't see coming. When filming on the follow-up season was underway in September 2025, the news arrived that the series would be losing two main characters in between seasons, a cast shakeup that wasn't directly addressed in the season 1 finale.

Unfortunately for those who are fans of the hate-to-love brand of characters, Davis Collins will no longer be pushing Staten Kirkland's buttons and romancing Quinn O'Grady. Eoin Macken departed Ransom Canyon as a series regular, along with Andrew Liner, who played Macken's on-screen son Reid Collins. What caused their exits? Thankfully, season 2 offers an explanation.

Why Eoin Macken isn't in Ransom Canyon season 2 as Davis

Quickly into Ransom Canyon season 2 episode 1, the series explains why Davis and Reid are no longer part of the story. Quinn and Ellie have a catch-up conversation when Quinn returns home from her six-month trip to New York City to discuss the changes that have occurred in town. Obviously, one of those changes is that Davis has up and left the small town and didn't look back.

As explained in the episode, the pipeline deal with Austin Water and Power went through as various ranchers cashed out and sold their land. Davis was obviously one of the ranchers who sold his land, as we know he was adamant to do in the first season to avoid his debts. After taking home a profit, he moved to Austin and rekindled his relationship with his ex-wife Paula Jo.

If you're wondering what happened to Reid and why Andrew Liner isn't featured in the cast, rather than hanging around Ransom Canyon, Reid went off to college at Texas A&M. He might have still been part of the series had there not been a six-month time-jump to catch up with Quinn's return home, but starting a new chapter off at college after his role in the Randall mess last season makes sense.

When Macken and Liner's exits from the series were first announced, it was unclear whether they would appear on screen to wrap up their storylines and send them off. However, neither actor makes an appearance in Ransom Canyon season 2. It's unfortunate that they just vanish, even with an explanation for their vanishing in dialogue. But they were still valuable members of the cast.

The actors haven't addressed their departures from the series, but the decision appears to have been a creative one made by the show's producers. In the absence of Davis and Reid, the second season gains Patricia Clarkson as Quinn's mother Claire, Steve Howey as Staten's half-brother Levi, Ben Robson as Quinn's love interest Oliver, and Heidi Grace Engerman as Yancy's wife Sidney.

We should never say never about the possibility of Macken and Liner reprising their roles at some point in the future, should Ransom Canyon continue beyond season 2. While it could a little bit difficult to write them back in, even for one episode, the longer they are away, there's no doubt there's always the potential for them both to come back to town for a blast from the past.
