It's time for the heartiest "yee-haw" you can muster because we're finally returning to Ransom Canyon after over a year since the show's first season premiered on Netflix. The romantic drama series with a Western twist debuted last year, and thanks to the combined star power of Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, it's one of the streamer's latest fan-favorite hits.
Ransom Canyon season 2 releases on July 23 and drops us right back into the middle of the mess that was left behind by the dramatic cliffhangers that ended season 1. Between dueling ranchers trying to one-up each other with a bitter game of chess and romantic entanglements either ending or becoming even more complicated, there's a lot to remember before the next chapter.
While there's still time to sneak in a quick rewatch of the first season, you might not want to commit to a full binge of all 10 episodes. In that case, we're sharing a quick and concise refresher on all thing happenings of the first season that fans need to remember before pressing play on Ransom Canyon season 2. Without further ado, here are the five biggest things you can't forget!

Quinn left Staten for New York City
From the very beginning of the series, Staten and Quinn's relationship was complex and messy since the past and their chemistry still pulled them toward each other. During the hurricane that hit Ransom Canyon, they finally gave into their feelings and got together with forever in sight. However, Staten's ongoing feud with David leads to revelations that make him decide to break things off with Quinn.
Obviously, Staten felt hurt about the proximity of Quinn's relationship with him and with Davis, a sting that causes him to doubt her feelings. It's a case of miscommunication that will surely be explored in season 2. By the end of the first season, Quinn's financial struggles at Gracie's inspire her to add Ellie as a partner and take a piano gig in New York City to make some extra money.
Months after her music job ends, Quinn returns home to Ransom Canyon where, hopefully, the dust will have settled from the romantic mess she left behind—at least temporarily. But she seems to have returned with a new love interest if the season 2 images are to believed. In the photo above, she's smiling with a man named Oliver, the potential new guy giving Staten a run for his money.

Staten's in a battle with his father
Speaking of Staten, his life isn't only in chaos in the romance department. He's still in the midst in the fight of his life over his Double K ranch, caught in the middle of Davis and his father. The pair are scheming together to force Staten out of ownership in order to secure a lucrative deal he's refusing to take part in. Davis secures ammo to unseat Staten as the ranch's trustee.
Based on the twist that occurred in the finale, with Davis and Staten's dead playing dirty, Staten could possibly lose Double K in season 2. Davis wanted to sell his ranch to Austin Water & Power to avoid paying his debts, but Staten wavered on teaming up with his former brother-in-law. The battle over the ranches in Ransom Canyon will remain at the forefront of the coming episodes.

Davis and Reid aren't coming back for season 2
Fortunately for Staten, the fight for Double K might be a little bit easier based on a character exit going into Ransom Canyon season 2. Unfortunately for fans, we're losing two very talented cast members. After season 2 was renewed, it was confirmed that Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner weren't returning as series regulars in their roles as Davis and Reid Collins.
Before the season 2 premiere, it's unclear if Macken and Liner will appear at all in season 2 in order to wrap up their storylines. But it's possible that the characters will be written off of the show off camera via dialogue. The fact that Davis will no longer we part of the series seriously calls into question exactly what happens after he schemed against Staten in the season 1 finale.

Yancy's secret wife returned to surprise Ellie
Ransom Canyon season 1 almost ended with a wedding, but our happy couple ended up having their relationship blown to pieces by an unfortunate surprise. Yancy and Ellie prepared to have a very small and intimate wedding with just the two of them, but as Yancy waited for his wife-to-be to arrive for their vows, he wound up being left heartbroken at the altar for a shocking reason.
Apparently, Yancy was married in the past and the marriage hasn't legally ended. His wife drops by Gracie's looking for Yancy, and she ironically asks Ellie his whereabouts. The revelation that he's married hits Ellie like a betrayal and she doesn't go through with their marriage. It's going to be a complex road moving forward for the couple as they continue to unpack Yancy's past.

Lauren and Lucas are still together and Kit is released
The youngest couple in the series, Lauren and Lucas had their fair share of ups and downs throughout the first season. Obviously, they were secretly together for most of season 1 because Lauren felt stuck in her relationship with Reid. That wasn't fair to Lucas, especially since her feelings for him were much stronger. Finally, they get together.
But when her mother gets arrested for Randall's death, their relationship hits a very rough patch when Lauren begins to consider her future. Lucas fights for her, though, and they end the season together. Going into season 2, Kit's release from prison will put him back in their lives, and considering he and Lauren had a connection during the hurricane, things could be getting tricky.
