Ransom Canyon season 2 release time (by time zone), age rating, and what's to come

Over one year has passed since we last spent some time down on the various ranches in Netflix's latest romantic drama series Ransom Canyon, but it's finally time to head back on down to Texas. Netflix releases the highly anticipated second season of the series starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly on Thursday, July 23, 2026, and fans have been counting down the seconds.

Ransom Canyon season 2 officially begins streaming on Netflix with a release time of 3 a.m. ET / midnight PT on Thursday, July 23. That's when all eight episodes will become available on your watch list, but for most viewers that's a little late to stay up to begin watching. But if you're a night owl, it's a small price to pay to check out at least the first episode to get answers ASAP.

As mentioned above, the second season comes with a small change. While the first season contained 10 episodes, Ransom Canyon returns with only eight episodes in season 2. Sure, there's a little less to love and your binge-watch might feel like it flies by a bit faster, but undoubtedly, it's quality over quantity and just more incentive to make sure we savor these episodes.

Ransom Canyon season 2 age rating

Netflix has a fair share of hit romantic drama series based on books, but Ransom Canyon might be the streamer's most mature adaptation of the bunch, when compared to Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias. The series has been given a TV-MA age rating, which means it's recommended for mature audiences only due to its instances of sex, nudity, and heightened language.

If you remember in the first season, Ransom Canyon contained a small amount of nudity, mostly of the male rear nudity variety, and some coarse language as the characters spoke with casual expletives. Keep in mind of those things as you turn on the second season. Don't expect the series to tone down. Those who aren't fans of sex scenes, nudity, and profanity might not enjoy this show.

While that's certainly something to expect, there's a whole more to expect from the story in the follow-up season. In the first season finale, Staten and Quinn's short-lived romantic reunion ended due to more interference from Davis, who also gave Staten quite the runaround over ownership of the Double K ranch. Ransom stands to make a deal with AWP if Staten signs on the dotted line.

What to expect from season 2 based on the trailer

But Staten's gruff senator father teams up with Davis in order to remove Staten as the trustee. Staten also loses Quinn, as she heads off to New York City for a job putting her piano skills to work for performances that will help put money back into Gracie's. Ellie takes over as manager in her absence, which will be a great distraction after not marrying Yancy because of his secret wife's arrival.

Ransom Canyon season 2 picks up months later as Quinn makes her triumphant return, but she's not alone. During her time in New York, she appears to have started a new relationship, which based on the trailer, will lead to jealousy from Staten. But the trailer also teases that a love triangle is quickly brewing between them as well as between Yancy, Ellie, and his wife Sidney.

The trailer also drops hints about things heating up between Lauren and Lucas's brother Kit, even though the creator originally shot the potential of the characters getting together. Netflix's official, and very theatrical, trailer for the second season sets up all kinds of twists and turns for the character and previews the streamier moments fans can expect coming up this season.

Heidi Grace Engerman joins the cast as Sidney, and the cast also features recurring and guest roles from Patricia Clarkson as Quinn's mother and Steve Howey as Staten's half-brother Levi. Unfortunately, Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner left the series, and Davis and Reid aren't back in season 2. There's still plenty of drama in store!
