Who doesn't love a good romantic drama, especially one with a Western twist to it? Ransom Canyon is just that, and when it premiered on Netflix back in April 2025, tons of people tuned in to see what it was all about.
Unsurprisingly, most viewers absolutely enjoyed every second of it. The hit Netflix show stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, and they're both romantically involved in the series. That said, is it really surprising that so many people watched the first season? With high viewership for season 1, it didn't take long for Netflix to make the exciting decision to greenlight a second season in June 2025. Now the cast and crew are hard at work shooting Ransom Canyon season 2 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and fans are left buzzing with anticipation.
Since the show's renewal, we've been constantly learning new details about the upcoming second installment. Besides the official start of production, there have been some major casting announcements. And the latest news? Well, it’s arguably the best casting news the series has ever received!
Steve Howey joins Ransom Canyon season 2

We're so happy to share that Steve Howey has joined the cast of Ransom Canyon season 2. According to Deadline, the amazingly talented actor has been cast in a recurring guest star role as Levi, Staten’s (played by Duhamel) half-brother. Levi is described as a "mountain man of sorts who lives off the land." Based on this character description, it appears that Levi might be tough, outdoorsy, and maybe a bit of a loner.
You might recognize Howey from his breakout role as Kevin Ball on Shameless, or from his other acting work on Reba and True Lies. When it comes to films, Howey has starred in movies such as Bride Wars, Something Borrowed and Netflix's Day Shift. Most recently, you can catch him in High Potential season 2. Besides Ransom Canyon season 2, you can also expect to see him next in the upcoming new Prime Video series, Off Campus.
With Howey's addition to the Ransom Canyon season 2 cast, he joins fellow new cast members Patricia Clarkson, Ben Robson, and Heidi Engerman. Clarkson will portray Claire O’Grady, Quinn's (played by Kelly) mom. However, it's unknown who Robson and Engerman will be playing in the second season.
The season 2 cast is also made up of Brett Cullen, Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Jack Schumacher, Marianly Tejada, Casey W. Johnson, Tatanka Means, Justin Johnson Cortez, Kenny Miller, Philip Winchester, Jennifer Ens, and Niko Guardado. Additionally, it's worth noting that Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner are no longer regular cast members. However, it's unclear whether this means we won't see them reprise their roles as Davis and Reid in the second season at all. We're still waiting to find out who will be playing Yancy's wife as well.
Created by April Blair, Ransom Canyon season 2 will see Ransom Canyon continue to face uncertain times as rival ranching families battle for control and newcomers arrive. Like season 1, you can expect more romance and drama. Although an official release date has not been set yet, it is likely that the new season will be released sometime later next year.
Don't worry! We'll get back to you with these juicy deets once Netflix makes them known. But for now, you'll have to stay tuned to Netflix Life.
