If there's one movie every anime fan should make it their goal to see, it's The Boy and the Heron. However, doing so may not be easy for everyone, especially for Netflix subscribers.

As of today, the 2023 animated title is not currently streaming on Netflix. We don't know when or if this will ever change, but we do know that there are other streaming services that you can check out to catch every second.

Here's where all you anime lovers (and film buffs, of course) can stream The Boy and the Heron.

The Boy and the Heron is now streaming on Apple TV+

Apple TV is currently our top recommendation for those who wish to watch The Boy and the Heron seamlessly without any interruptions or a reduction in quality.

Upon subscription to Apple TV, audiences can watch all two hours and four minutes of this amazing Studio Ghibli title in HD. The site also offers Japanese dubbing for those who would rather watch the film in its original audio.

Aside from Apple TV+, audiences will have to wait a tad bit longer for this animated film to stream on Max. The Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service has landed streaming rights to the movie, which will be released later this year.

Be sure to check this space frequently because we'll be sharing the Max release date once it's announced.

Perhaps you have a subscription to Apple TV+. However, you aren't too sold on watching this animated title. Worry not! We have two good reasons for you!

Why you should stream The Boy and the Heron

First and foremost, the cast of this title is seriously star-studded. Here's a quick snapshot of who's who:

  • Luca Padovan/Soma Santoki as Mahito Maki
  • Robert Pattinson/Masaki Suda as The Grey Heron
  • Florence Pugh/Kou Shibasaki as Kiriko
  • Christian Bale/Takuya Kimura as Shoichi Maki

The above stars have been receiving endless acclaim for the amount of emotion they put into their respective roles, so there's no denying that you will be in for an entertaining time. But if you aren't necessarily moved by voice actors, we think the film's plot might entice you.

Check out the official synopsis for The Boy and the Heron (via IMDb) below:

"After losing his mother during the war, young Mahito moves to his family's estate in the countryside. There, a series of mysterious events lead him to a secluded and ancient tower, home to a mischievous gray heron. When Mahito's new stepmother disappears, he follows the gray heron into the tower, and enters a fantastic world shared by the living and the dead. As he embarks on an epic journey with the heron as his guide, Mahito must uncover the secrets of this world, and the truth about himself. "
