All six episodes of the limited series Griselda are now available to stream on Netflix. In this new crime drama show, viewers watch the rise and fall of one of the most notorious Colombian drug lords, Griselda Blanco, aka the Cocaine Godmother.
But since there are only six episodes of the show, it won't take you long to watch them all. So what do you do after you've finished? Well, if you're anything like us at Netflix Life, we'd recommend going on to watch similar shows. And fortunately, Netflix already has tons of shows like Griselda streaming on its platform.
No worries! You don't even have to browse through the streamer's long library of crime dramas because we've already done the hard work and shared some of the best ones down below.
Queen of the South
It's only right that I put Queen of the South on the list since the main character is believed to have been inspired by the real Griselda Blanco. It's an adaptation of the popular Spanish telenovela La Reina del Sur, which is another crime drama you should check out on Netflix. The show follows the story of a poor Mexican woman named Teresa Mendoza, who is forced to flee Mexico for America after her drug-dealing boyfriend is murdered. While in the United States, Teresa soon finds herself sucked into the drug trafficking world and eventually becomes a drug queenpin.
Alice Braga stars in the leading role of Teresa Mendoza. You might recognize her from her other roles in the movies Elysium, The Shack and The Suicide Squad. Peter Gadiot, Hemky Madera, Molly Burnett, Veronica Falcon, Joaquim de Almeida, Justina Machado, and many others join Braga in the cast. There are five seasons in total, so there's plenty to watch and enjoy on Netflix.
Narcos
You just had to know I was going to include Narcos on the list. It's created by some of the creators of Griselda (Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro) and it focuses on the rise of the Colombian cocaine trade and some of the drug lords during that time, specifically Pablo Escobar. The show had an amazing three season run on Netflix before coming to an end in 2017. Luckily, the creators decided to create a spinoff series called Narcos: Mexico, so fans had a new crime drama series to take its place.
If you're a fan of Emmy-nominated actor Pedro Pascal, you should definitely check out Narcos. He plays DEA agent, Javier Peña, who is tasked with taking down Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and the infamous Cali Cartel. Wagner Moura, Boyd Holbrook, Damián Alcázar, and many others are also in the cast.
Narcos: Mexico
Yes, this is the same show that was just mentioned above. Like Narcos, Narcos: Mexico consists of three seasons that are all available to watch on Netflix. You'll also be happy to know that some Griselda cast members are in this show's cast like Alberto Ammann, Alberto Guerra, José Zuñiga, and Orlando Pineda. Unlike Narcos which focused on the Colombian drug trade, Narcos: Mexico centers around the development of Mexico's drug trade.
Here's what the show is about via Netflix:
"Narcos: Mexico will explore the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots, beginning at a time when the Mexican trafficking world was a loose and disorganized confederation of independent growers and dealers. Witness the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s as Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna) takes the helm, unifying traffickers in order to build an empire. When DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new post, he quickly learns that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever could have imagined. As Kiki garners intelligence on Félix and becomes more entangled in his mission, a tragic chain of events unfold, affecting the drug trade and the war against it for years to come."
Mindhunter
Mindhunter might not be focusing on drugs or the drug trade, but there's definitely enough crime in this show to keep you on the edge of your seat. Taking place in the late '70s, FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench and psychologist Wendy Carr team up to interview imprisoned serial killers to understand what motivates them to commit such violent crimes. With what they learn from these serial killers, they're able to apply it to solve ongoing cases.
Glee star and Emmy-nominated actor Jonathan Groff plays the role of Special Agent Holden Ford, while Holt McCallany portrays Special Agent Bill Tench. Emmy-nominated actress Anna Torv stars as Wendy Carr.
The Lincoln Lawyer
The Lincoln Lawyer is arguably one of the best crime drama shows on Netflix. It's a show based on Michael Connelly's popular book series and follows criminal-defense lawyer Mickey Haller as he takes on high-profile and low-profile cases across Los Angeles, California. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo stars as the protagonist, Mickey Haller. You might've watched him in the movies 6 Underground, Sweet Girl and A Man Called Otto. In addition, the cast is made up of Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, and others.
Two seasons have been released so far, with a third season currently in the works. So you might want to get started on The Lincoln Lawyer soon if you haven't already.
Fool Me Once
Fool Me Once is part of novelist Harlan Coben's collection on Netflix. It's an eight-episode limited series following a grieving wife who is trying to come to terms with her husband's murder, only to be thrown for a loop when he appears in the hidden nanny cam she set up to watch over her young daughter. Michelle Keegan, who is best known for her role as Tina McIntyre in the British soap opera Coronation Street, plays the role of Maya Stern, the grieving wife. Joining her in the cast are Dino Fetscher, Richard Armitage, Joanna Lumley, Adeel Akhtar, Emmett J. Scanlan, and others.
Overall, Fool Me Once is definitely the type of show that'll keep you guessing and entertained throughout. So, make sure to add it to your watchlist!
