Everyone can’t get enough of The Lincoln Lawyer! Back in May 2022, the world met a new version of Mickey Haller on Netflix, when Manuel Garcia-Rulfo took over the role in the streaming series based on Michael Connelly’s series of books. Now, we can’t wait for The Lincoln Lawyer season 3.

The first season adapted Connelly’s second novel in the series, called The Brass Verdict, while the follow-up season adapted the fourth, The Fifth Witness. Lana Parrilla and Yaya DaCosta joined Garcia-Rulfo, Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, and the rest of the cast for season 2’s shocking new case. Season 3 will be based on the book Gods of Guilt.

While each season of the series has a standalone quality to it due to being based on a particular book in Connelly’s series, there’s still carry over that makes fans want more and more. After the two-part second season, The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 will be coming to Netflix, and we’re sharing all of the details so far. The latest update was published on Friday, March 1, 2024.

The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 is happening on Netflix

On Wednesday, Aug. 30, Netflix officially announced that The Lincoln Lawyer had been renewed for season 3. The renewal came less than a month after the drop of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 part 2 on Aug. 3. Both parts of the second season further cemented the Netflix original series as a success, raking in 40 million views and hitting the top 10 in over 80 countries, per Netflix.

There are seven total Mickey Haller books in Michael Connelly’s series, leaving four yet to be adapted: The Reversal, The Gods of Guilt, The Law of Innocence, and the 2023 release Resurrection Walk. (The series skipped the titular first novel.) Depending on its success, the series could adapt many more of these stories beyond season 3.

Following the release of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 part 2 in August, we expected to hear from Netflix about the fate of the series later in August (which came true) or sometime this fall. The streamer has been much quicker with its renewals as of late, which could’ve been in response to the writers’ strike. However, the SAG-AFTRA strike also posed delays to shows, too.

Production has officially started on the third season

On Jan. 18, Netflix announced that the cast and crew were back on set to film the highly anticipated third season. It was also reported that the new season will adapt the fifth book in The Lincoln Lawyer book series, The Gods of Guilt. We previously reported that production would be starting sometime in January 2024, and it looks like we were right.

Below, you'll find our previous report.

It has been rumored that some of the scripts for season 3 were written prior to the WGA strike. However, everything was shut down when the writer’s strike began in May 2023. Writing for the season wasn’t permitted to begin again until after the strike was resolved. Fortunately, a deal was met and the WGA strike ended in late September, which means The Lincoln Lawyer writers were able to get back to work. However, we don’t have confirmation that this actually happened.

But it looks like the writers room is actually back up and running because we now have a tentative filming start date. According to Deadline, the cast and crew are looking to start shooting the third season sometime in January 2024. This news comes after the SAG-AFTRA strike (actor’s strike)  came to an end in November 2023. Actors can now return to sets and start filming since the strike is over.

There isn’t a production end date yet, but we’re probably looking at least five months of filming before the new episodes move on to the post-production stage. This is how long filming took for seasons 1 and 2. It’s hard to predict when the third season could come out since it’s still early in the filmmaking process, but our guess is that we’re probably looking at a late 2024 release at the earliest. An early 2025 release isn’t off the table, though. We should have a better idea of when The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 could arrive once it moves further into the filmmaking process.

We can’t wait to watch Mickey’s next adventure unfold!

How many episodes will be in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3?

Upon the renewal for season 3, Netflix announced The Lincoln Lawyer’s next chapter would again contain 10 all-new episodes. However, the streamer did not reveal whether season 3 would be split into two parts like season 2. Because that strategy appeared to work in the show’s favor, we’re inclined to assume Netflix will again split season 3 into two parts, but we’ll let fans know when that decision has been made.

Cast

Along with the renewal, Netflix revealed Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will be back as the beloved Mickey Haller, and also confirmed a handful of other fan-favorite cast members for season 3. Take a look at the confirmed season 3 cast below:

  • Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller
  • Becki Newton as Lorna
  • Jazz Raycole as Izzy
  • Angus Sampson as Cisco
  • Yay DaCosta as Andy Freemann
  • Elliott Gould as Legal Siegal
  • Krista Warner as Hayley
  • Fiona Rene as Glory Days
  • Devon Graye as Julian La Cosse

On Feb. 29, Netflix revealed four new cast members joining the season 3 cast: Merrin Dungey, Allyn Moriyon, John Pirruccello, and Philip Anthony-Rodriguez. Dungey, who like season 2's Lana Parrilla also played a Once Upon a Time villain, will portray Judge Regina Turner. She's a more progressive judge, but that doesn't mean her rulings will be in Mickey's favor.

Moriyon takes on the role of Eddie Rojas, a former babysitter of Mickey's daughter and a fitness professional who turns to Mickey when he needs representation. Pirruccello will be Mickey's next prosecutor to take on in the courtroom, and Anthony-Rodriguez appears as the Chief Deputy District Attorney Adam Suarez. Andy will have her work cut out for her again with Adam.

On March 26, Netflix announced four more castings for season 3, which includes one familiar face. That familiar face? Jon Tenney as Mickey's father, Mickey Haller Sr. The other additions to the new season are Michael Irby as DEA Agent James De Marco, Maisie Klompus as Annabeth Stephens, and Wolé Parks as David Lyons.

We also learned some information about Neve Campbell returning as Maggie in season 3.

Will Neve Campbell be in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3?

Initially, we reported that Neve Campbell wouldn't be in the third season because of information we had gotten from The Hollywood Reporter. But this information turned out not to be true. When Netflix announced that the show was back in production, it also announced that Neve Campbell would be returning for season 3 in a recurring role. The streamer even shared some first-look images of the new season which included her. However, Neve will only appear in a flashback scene this season.

Here's what showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez had to say about Neve Campbell's return as Maggie.

"We decided that a fun (and poignant) way to come into the season would be via a flashback sequence that gave us some insight into how Mickey Haller became Mickey Haller — not just the brilliant criminal defense lawyer, but the husband, the father, and the man that he would come to be. These images of a young Mickey finishing up surfing before a life-changing day at work, as well as cuddling on the couch with his wife Maggie after putting their young daughter Hayley to bed, are from a pair of these flashback scenes that bookend the first episode and propel us into the rest of Season 3."

Spoilers ahead from The Lincoln Lawyer season 2!

How does The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 end?

In the final moments of season 2, after the resolution of Lisa’s case for Mitchell Bondurant’s murder, Mickey meets with Julian Lacosse, a new client in jail. He’s been accused of killing his friend Giselle Dallinger. When Mickey meets Julian, he says Giselle spoke highly of him, but Mickey has no idea who he’s talking about.

Mickey identifies the body of the deceased, and he’s heartbroken to discover it’s Gloria Dayton, otherwise known as Glory Days. The second season ends on the cliffhanger of Glory Days’ supposed murder, which has a personal connection to Mickey. Since season 3 will adapt the book The Gods of Guilt, it will likely follow Julian’s trial for murder.
