We have good news to report, Netflix Lifers! Netflix has just announced that a new live-action English-language TV adaptation of the hit Japanese manga Kakegurui is in the works with Warrior Nun creator Simon Barry at the helm. More on this below.

The show is titled BET, and it's being described as a thriller series. Barry serves as showrunner and executive producer. He developed the series, wrote the scripts, and will also direct the episodes. Jeff F. King, David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Jon Rutherford, and Nick Nantell join him as executive producers. In addition, there will be 10 episodes in the first season.

The show takes place at a high-class elite boarding school where the student hierarchy is determined by underground gambling. One day, Yumeko, a mysterious transfer student from Japan who harbors a dark secret and has a gambling addiction, shows up at the school. Her arrival quickly disrupts the established order of the school, and she soon finds herself drawing the attention of the powerful Student Council.

As of May 30, principal photography is officially underway in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The cast is made up of Miku Martineau (Honor Society), Ayo Solanke (Almost Unsolved), Eve Edwards (The Good Doctor), Clara Alexandrova (A Million Little Things), Anwen O’Driscoll (Burden of Truth), Aviva Mongillo (Workin' Moms), Hunter Cardinal, and Ryan Sutherland. While all the roles are undisclosed at the moment, Martineau is believed to be starring in the leading role of Yumeko.
