This 2024 underrated horror movie is now on Netflix and it deserves all the love

Where are all my horror fans? Netflix recently added 10 horror films to its platform on the first of August. While I recommend checking out each new release, the one that should be at the top of your watchlist is the 2024 supernatural horror film Tarot. This movie is criminally underrated, in my opinion, when it really deserves all the love and attention.

Spenser Cohen (Extinction, Moonfall) and Anna Halberg (The Expendables 4) wrote and directed Tarot, making it their feature film directorial debuts. Like most movies nowadays, Tarot is based on another piece of work. It's based on Nicholas Adams' 1992 novel Horrorscope. Although panned by critics, the horror flick still managed to be a box-office success, grossing $49 million worldwide against a budget of $8 million.

Here's how I see it. It's okay to read critic reviews but don't let what someone else has said and their opinions deter you from watching a movie. Who knows, you might end up liking it. That's how I feel about Tarot. It might not be the best horror film I've ever watched, but it was a pretty solid movie, and I enjoyed every second of it. It's definitely a good starter movie for new horror fans.

The film's plot revolves around a group of college friends who, after playing with a deck of cursed tarot cards, start to die off one by one in horrific ways connected to their fortunes told in the cards. Now, it's up to the remaining survivors to solve the deck's mystery before they also meet their demises.

The cast is made up of a bunch of talented actors, some of whom you may recognize and others you may not. There's Harriet Slater (Pennyworth, Belgravia: The Next Chapter), Adain Bradley (All American, The Bold and the Beautiful), Avantika Vandanapu (Mean Girls, Senior Year), Wolfgang Novogratz (The Half of It, Yes God, Yes), Humberly González (Ginny & Georgia), Larsen Thompson (The Midnight Club), Jacob Batalon (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Reginald the Vampire), and Olwen Fouéré (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Watchers).

As of Aug. 2, Tarot is one of Netflix's top films, ranking at the No. 3 spot on the streamer's top 10 movie list. This means tons of people are streaming it. I saw this horror flick when it hit theaters back in May. Now that it's available to stream on Netflix, I can't wait to watch it for a second time to see if I missed anything during my first watch. Since Tarot is a licensed movie, it won't be on Netflix forever. So, we strongly recommend watching it on the streaming platform as soon as possible.
