There's still no word on the fate of Loudermilk season 4 (but the co-creator wants it)
It was a sad day when news dropped that the Audience Network would be shutting down. This meant that three of its original shows' fates would be left up in the air. One of those TV shows was Loudermilk, whose third season had already been filmed. After the Audience Network ceased operations in May 2020, the series was left without a home and the rights were returned back to the producers.
Fortunately, Amazon had acquired the rights and the third season was eventually released on Amazon Prime Video in some countries in December 2020. However, the United States wasn't one of them. It wasn't until March 2021 when the show made its debut on Amazon Prime Video in the U.S. The third season was released a month later in April.
Now, Netflix U.S. is carrying all three seasons on its platform so we Netflix Lifers can finally binge-watch the show to our heart's content. But what about a Loudermilk season 4? Is a fourth season happening? Well, this is something that's still not known yet. The show still hasn't found a new permanent home after being forced to depart the Audience Network back in 2020.
Fans were hoping that after Amazon picked up the show's first three seasons, that the streaming service would be interested in continuing the series, but this didn't end up being the case. Now that the show is available to stream on Netflix, fans are hoping the streaming giant will see the show's potential and pick it up for a fourth season. But the jury is still out on this situation.
What has been said about a Loudermilk season 4
Here's what Loudermilk is about via IMDb:
"Sam Loudermilk is a recovering alcoholic and substance-abuse counselor with a bad attitude. Although he has his drinking under control, Loudermilk discovers that when your life is a mess, getting clean is the easy part."
Ron Livingston, Will Sasso Anja Savcic, Laura Mennell, Brian Regan, Ricky Blitt, Timothy Webber, and many others are in the cast.
Back in October 2020, the show's co-creator Peter Farrelly expressed his interest in making a Loudermilk season 4 in an interview with Deadline. He gives a little tease of what a potential fourth season would be about and how he has plans for the show that goes past four seasons.
Here are some season 4 plot details Farrelly shared below:
"It is the year Loudermilk gets his mojo back. He writes a book at end of Season 3, it’s all about the music world. It becomes a huge smash hit in Season 4. And all of a sudden, he is back in the game, people are inviting him to parties, and he is hanging out with real musicians. Now the question is, will he have time for that sad, sad group he has been babysitting for the last three years? Will he be able to maintain the sobriety now that he is back in the fast lane?"
At the time, Farrelly mentioned that although the cast had been released from their contracts, they were still up to returning for a Loudermilk season 4 if it was to happen. He told Deadline, "Everybody wants to come back and do Season 4. We are going to get them back, we are going to do it, we just need to find the right home for it.” This was said back in October 2020. Since then, many of the cast members have gone on to take on new roles. I'm not sure if they'd be able to come back for a fourth season now.
Here's what Farrelly had to say about the future of Loudermilk:
"We want to do Season 4, Season 5, Season 6, Season 7. I want to keep going because I know where it is going, where I want it to be in 6-7 years."
It's been over three years since Farrelly gave this interview, and he nor anyone else from the show's creative team has said anything else about a fourth season since then. But who knows? Although it's rare for Netflix to pick up shows, we've seen it be done before. If Loudermilk fares really well on the platform, the streamer might just pick it up for an additional season. We'll let you know if this happens, so stay tuned to Netflix Life!
