The Witcher shares the first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt in season 4
By Bryce Olin
The first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher season 4 is officially here, and he looks, well, pretty much exactly as we all thought he would! He's got the suit, the swords and other weaponry, the Witcher pendant, and the hair!
Netflix reached out to our team at Netflix Life with the first look in the form of a video. Entertainment Weekly published the exclusive first-look photo of Hemsworth as Geralt in The Witcher season 4.
In the video, there's a lot of anticipation-building going on. We see a reflection of Geralt walking his horse near a pond. Then, we see various close-ups of all the signature Geralt garb. Finally, we see a shot of Geralt from behind with all that glorious, white flow. He turns back to the camera, and there it is, for the first time, Hemsworth as Geralt!
This is obviously a huge day for fans of The Witcher! I know we've all been waiting to see the first look at Hemsworth as Geralt. Would he look the same as Henry Cavill, who left the series after three seasons as the main character? The answer is obviously yes! I mean, we're three seasons into the series at this point. It'd be very weird if Geralt looked drastically different between seasons.
I'm sure they'll find a way for Hemsworth to put his spin on the character with the look, feel, and style of his performance. It'd be a mistake to just try to copy Cavill's vibe.
The Witcher season 4 is currently filming. The cast and crew started production in the UK in April 2024. Production is scheduled to continue through the end of the year. The Witcher season 4 is already confirmed for a 2025 release on Netflix, but we still don't know when exactly the new season will be available.
As for what the new season will be about, we know that Geralt is on the hunt with Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Jaskier (Joey Batey) to find our girl, Princessa Cirilla (Freya Allen), who they believe to be in Nilfgaard with Emperor Emhyr var Emreis (Bart Edwards).
Here's the official synopsis of season 4, via Netflix:
"After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire and finding one another again. "
Hemsworth will star as Geralt for season 4 and season 5. Netflix has already renewed the series for a fifth season, but it ain't all good news! The Witcher season 5 will be the final season of the series. We're expecting to see more shows and movies set in this world since the series has been such a great addition to the world of Netflix, but the end of Ciri, Geralt, and Yennefer's stories will likely happen in season 5.
We'll share more news about The Witcher season 4 when we find out! It's probably going to be a while until we see anything else about the season, but stay tuned!
