The Equalizer 3 and more Sony movies coming to Netflix in 2024
By Mads Lennon
This year we've seen the addition of many big Sony movies on Netflix like A Man Called Otto, 65, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, No Hard Feelings, and Gran Turismo. The Sony/Netflix deal is set to continue into 2024, meaning we'll see a lot more notable titles on the streaming service, like the highly-anticipated superhero movies Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter.
But you might be curious as to when you can expect to see those films streaming on Netflix. The deal is reportedly so that Sony movies come to Netflix about six months after their theatrical run, but in 2023 that timeframe was much shorter for several releases. For example, No Hard Feelings and Gran Turismo took fewer than four months to transition to Netflix. Similarly, The Equalizer 3 is set to arrive in January after its September premiere.
Based on the trajectory of the last few Sony movies to come to Netflix, here's when we estimate some of 2024's biggest movies will begin streaming on the service.
The Equalizer 3
- Netflix release date: January 1
Fans of this hit action-thriller franchise from Antoine Fuqua starring Denzel Washington won't have to wait long to see the latest installment on Netflix. The Equalizer 3 is already planned for a Jan. 1 date, so it might just end up being your first movie of 2024! Since we last saw Robert McCall, he had given up his life as a government assassin, but as these stories usually go, that doesn't last long when he's forced to become a protector to his new friends who are being hunted by their local crime bosses.
Dumb Money
- Netflix release date: January 21
Director Craig Gillespie's (I, Tonya) latest movie Dumb Money starring Paul Dano, Pete Davidson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Sebastian Stan, Seth Rogen, and will officially be added to Netflix on January 21. Based on the book by Ben Mezrich, Dumb Money is a biographical comedy-drama about the infamous "short squeeze" of video game retailer GameStop that occurred in Jan. 2021.
Anyone But You
- Estimated Netflix date: April-May
Loosely based on William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, Anyone But You is Will Gluck's hilarious romantic comedy starring Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell as a couple who goes on a date that ends with a fizzle, but then find they can't stop running into each other on vacation. Discovering they have both been invited to the same destination wedding, Bea and Ben choose to pretend they're actually together. Released in Dec. 2023, Anyone But You should hit Netflix by April or May.
It Ends With Us
- Estimated Netflix date: Early-to-mid summer
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni star in this highly discussed adaptation of Colleen Hoover's controversial book of the same name. If you've spent any time on BookTok you've probably seen a lot of discourse regarding this film and the novel, but you'll soon get to make up your own mind about it when the film arrives in theaters on Feb. 9. Following its theatrical debut, It Ends With Us should come to Netflix sometime next summer.
Madame Web
- Estimated Netflix date: Mid-to-late summer
Anyone But You isn't Sydney Sweeney's only big movie coming to Netflix next year. She's also co-starring alongside Dakota Johnson in the next Sony Spider-verse movie Madame Web, all about the titular superhero, played by Johnson. Sweeney will play Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman. Madame Web slings into theaters on Feb. 14, meaning it will probably follow the debut of It Ends With Us by a few weeks.
More Sony movies that could come to Netflix in 2024
- Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
- My Ex-Friend's Wedding
- The Garfield Movie
- Harold and the Purple Crayon
- Kraven the Hunter
There is also a new Venom film slated for a Nov. 2024 release date, but that means it probably won't hit Netflix until 2025, same for the upcoming Karate Kid movie and Paddington in Peru.
