Award-winning singer and actress Jennifer Lopez is known for her starring in fan-favorite rom-coms such as The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, Shall We Dance?, Monster-in-Law and Marry Me. However, she's also starred in her fair share of thrillers. In fact, one of those thrillers just dropped on Netflix. We're talking about The Boy Next Door. We'd even argue that this movie is the best thriller she's done so far.

The Boy Next Door is described as an erotic thriller film. It was helmed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, XXX) from a screenplay written by Barbara Curry (Interrogation). The plot centers around an illicit affair that spirals out of control between a high school literature teacher and a 19-year-old boy.

Lopez stars as Claire Peterson, a high school teacher who is in the process of divorcing her adulterous husband when she meets charming 19-year-old Noah Sandborn (Ryan Guzman). Noah has just moved in next door to Claire with his wheelchair-bound uncle to help him. He eventually grows close to Claire's teenage son and even helps Claire out around the house. But what starts as an innocent friendship between the two turns into something more when Claire succumbs to temptation and has a one-night stand with Noah.

However, she immediately regrets the hookup the next morning and tries to break things off, but this enrages Noah. His true nature is then revealed, and Claire begins to realize how mentally unstable he is. Noah becomes increasingly dangerous and threatening to Claire, causing her to fear for not only her life but those closest to her as well. Now, she must do everything in her power to protect herself and her family before it's too late.

Besides this thriller, Guzman has starred in other movies, such as Step Up Revolution, Step Up: All In and Jem and the Holograms. He also played the roles of Jake in Pretty Little Liars, Carlos Gutierrez in Heroes Reborn, and Eddie Diaz in 9-1-1. Joining Lopez and Guzman in The Boy Next Door cast are John Corbett, Ian Nelson, Kristin Chenoweth, Lexi Atkins, Hill Harper, Jack Wallace, Travis Schuldt, and others.

Although this film received mostly negative reviews from critics when it was released in theaters back in January 2015, it still managed to be a box-office success, grossing $53.4 million against a $4 million budget. While the negative critic reviews could be seen as a turn-off, I wouldn't let them deter you from checking out this movie for yourself. Who knows? You might actually enjoy it.
