Sweet Magnolias season 4 is not intended to be the final season according to showrunner Sheryl Anderson
By Cody Schultz
We’ve known for months now that a fourth season of Sweet Magnolias was on the way and it seems the hope is that more seasons could soon be coming as well – at least that’s the hope of showrunner Sheryl Anderson!
When celebrating the final day of filming on the show’s fourth season, Anderson took to Instagram where she not so subtly confirmed the upcoming fourth season is not being viewed as the final season of Sweet Magnolias.
“Today, I put these on for the last time in Season 4. There will be laughter and tears as we wrap, and prayers that we will get to do it again,” she wrote commemorating her last day of work on season 4.
The update might seem small, but it’s quite major as it confirms that the creative team did not approach Sweet Magnolias season 4 as the final season of the series and is looking forward to at least one more season to continue the stories told in season 4.
Honestly, that makes perfect sense as Sweet Magnolias feels like a show that could continue on for many more seasons as there are still plenty of stories to tell! It’s also the type of show that could naturally continue for many seasons as others in that same genre have.
Sweet Magnolias season 5 hasn’t been ordered yet
It’s important to note that while season 4 has clearly not been written to be the final season of Sweet Magnolias, that does not mean a fifth season is happening. At this time, Netflix has not announced a renewal for Sweet Magnolias season 5 and it’s unlikely any decision will be made until after the fourth season arrives and Netflix can see how it performs.
Given season 4 won’t be coming until sometime in 2025, that means we might have a long wait ahead to know whether another season will happen. That said, the odds do seem to be in the show’s favor.
Clearly, the creative team is hoping to return for another season which means they still have stories to tell which is always a big piece of the puzzle. It also helps that the show is relatively cheap to make in comparison to other Netflix shows which helps the show’s odds of renewal. Netflix has proven to be more likely to keep cheaper shows going even if they don’t do crazy numbers rather than handing out renewals to big-budget shows.
It also helps that the entire case seems highly interested in continuing the show as there have been no indications that any of the show’s key cast members are looking to step away from the show.
Given the show also remains a strong performer on Netflix and has a passionate fan base, we’d be shocked if Sweet Magnolias season 5 didn’t happen. Let’s just hope Netflix feels the same way!
