We’ve just had the second half of Bridgerton season 3. Now it’s time for extra steam. Netflix has the rights to Fifty Shades of Grey once more, and you need to watch.
Yes, the movie is on Netflix right now. It’s only the first one of the three movies at this point. It’s annoying when only one movie in a franchise heads to Netflix, but at least it’s the first one. As a horror fan as well, it gets so annoying when I have to watch the Saw movies in odd orders.
Back to this steamy romance, though. Can you believe that Fifty Shades of Grey is almost 10 years old, and it is still one of the more popular movies in this genre?
It all started with Twilight
Technically, Fifty Shades of Grey started with a book. But that book started with Twilight. Yes, the novel was originally Twilight fanfiction, and it was then turned into something original. Well, sort of. There are certainly clear elements of Twilight fanfiction thrown in, and you can see it in both the books and the movies.
Regardless, it all started with Bella and Edward. Now it’s all about Anastasia and Christian.
What is Fifty Shades of Grey about?
For those who have missed out on the story so far, this movie is all about desire and want. Anastasia steps in for her roommate when it comes to an interview of one of New York’s billionaires, Christian Grey. There is an instant attraction, but Christian has a secret that nobody knows. He is a dom in the world of BDSM.
Anastasia finds herself pulled into this world as her attraction for Christian grows. It certainly promises the heat. Oh my!
There have always been some complaints about the movie, though. Those who actively take part in the real BDSM community have often talked about how it doesn’t showcase the community and the rules in place at all. Many say that Fifty Shades of Grey is glorified abuse, and it’s something to keep in mind as you go into the movie.
That being said, it’s a movie that has become a culture phenomenon. This is one of those that focuses on pure sex and not about a relationship, especially in this first movie. Christian makes it clear that he does not want to settle down. There are many reasons for that, but he isn’t after Anastasia as a life partner. He wants someone else to pull into his world.
He even treats it all as a business proposal, to keep the love out of it. It's all about lust. Take a look:
Fifty Shades of Grey focuses on power and sexual desire. People have their kinks and they have their wants. E.L. James wants to move away from kink shaming, and that’s what the movie continues.
If you’re looking for something to fill in the steamy void now that you’ve binged Bridgerton, it’s time to turn to Fifty Shades of Grey. You will not regret it. We’ll keep an eye out for the two follow-up movies, as you need to watch the whole trilogy once it’s all on Netflix.
