Should Mindy be with Nicolas or Benoit in Emily in Paris season 4?
By Reed Gaudens
Warning: Spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4 part 1.
As Emily in Paris season 4 part 1 makes its premiere, everyone will obviously be talking about Emily's complicated love triangle with Gabriel and Alfie and who she chooses. While Emily does make her choice that some might not agree with, her bestie Mindy also has a bit of relationship drama happening with the two men in her life, Benoit and Nicolas.
In season 4 part 1, Mindy's in a committed relationship with Nicolas (played by Ashley Park's real-life boyfriend Paul Forman) and working with Benoit in their band with Etienne. The trio of performers have been selected to represent France in Eurovision, but they need the expensive funds necessary to make their performance really pop.
Throughout the first five episodes of the season, Mindy's personal and professional storylines take various turns that will have viewers choosing sides between her bandmate and her billionaire heir boyfriend. Who does Mindy end up with this season and who should she be with? Let's get into all of the Mindy-centric spoilers from the latest episodes!
Mindy's own Emily in Paris love triangle
In the beginning of season 4, Mindy and her bandmates Benoit and Etienne are preparing for Eurovision, but they quickly learn they don't have enough money to put on a splashy show. By all accounts, Mindy and Benoit work well together, leaving the past in the past. Still, there are definitely visible and palpable sparks between them when they sing together.
Mindy's relationship with Nicolas hits a bit of a rough patch when she pushes back at him for trying to mold her into the image of an acceptable girlfriend for the De Leon empire. He gifts her with a couture outfit for the tennis match in order to impress his father. Mindy overhears Nicolas talking to his father and not speaking up in her defense when his dad says she "covered up this time." In an iconic move, she sells the expensive outfit for Eurovision money.
Nicolas has his faults throughout the season, including trying to preserve JVMA's image and that of his father when he's publicly accused of sexual harassment. He learns along the way, too. Nicolas wants to take his father's side at first, but he's receptive to Mindy's appeal that what's been said is true. He wants Mindy by his side for support, and she will be there as long as he's "on the side that's right."
Their difference in opinion on the matter, especially after Sylvie's account takes the accusations to the media, causes a fight when Mindy won't attend a charity event and be photographed with the De Leon family. Mindy wants Nicolas to choose her over choosing any sides, and he does! Nicolas attends Sylvie's club opening, though he misses Mindy's performance.
Honestly, Mindy's relieved that he missed the performance because... let's just say, Mindy and Benoit did not fabricate that moment. They have a real connection and attraction that sells their stage presence, but it's not all an act. Benoit looks on with jealousy as the couple kisses, clearly hinting that this love triangle will really be heating up in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2.
Like with Emily's love triangle with Gabriel and Alfie, Mindy also has two incredibly solid options in her love life. She and Benoit connect as artists, but she and Nicolas have this grand, larger-than-life love story. Benoit might be the more popular pick for Mindy for this reason. It's easier and real and there isn't family business getting in between them.
Still, one thing that should be appreciated about Nicolas in season 4 is that he's willing to make an effort. He listened to Mindy and took her advice. He refused to work at JVMA with his father still there, causing the board to ask his dad to step down as CEO. He's learning and putting in the time to care for his partnership with Mindy. He definitely won a lot of us over with that this season!
For now, Mindy and Nicolas are the couple. Whether they are endgame or not, they will learn a lot about themselves by being with each other and it's a vital relationship for each of them to see through, much like Emily and Alfie. So, Mindy does end up with Nicolas in season 4 part 1 and she should be with him now, but that doesn't mean the story's over with Benoit.
