Shadow in the Cloud and 4 other great creature features to watch on Netflix this week (May 6)

The month of May offers a great lineup of new titles on Netflix with one of the year's most highly anticipated series returns with Bridgerton's third season. May also offers many other outstanding new releases, including the Jeff Daniels led A Man in Full, the dark comedy mystery Bodkin, and Benedict Cumberbatch in a psychological thriller limited series Eric.

Netflix recently released the creature fiction film Shadow in the Cloud starring Chloë Grace Moretz. It is a wild ride with unexpectedly mixed themes that somehow work well together. Shadow in the Cloud (2020)

The action horror Shadow in the Cloud has recently been released on Netflix. The film is set in 1943, during WWII, and stars Chloë Grace Moretz (The Peripheral) as RAF Pilot Officer Maude Garrett, who is tasked with protecting a classified package from Auckland, New Zealand. Soon after boarding a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, she encounters an evil gremlin. The movie is a strange but satisifying mix of feminism, WWII dogfights, and creature feature. It also stars Beulah Koale, Taylor John Smith, Callan Mulvey, and Nick Robinson.

The Ritual (2018)

The Netflix original creature feature The Ritual is a wild ride that follows a group of friends on a wilderness trip through a Scandinavian forest. The movie stars Rafe Spall, Arsher Ali, Robert James-Collier, and Sam Troughton as four friends who encounter something sinister during their hike.

The Silence (2019)

The Silence, based on the novel by Tim Lebbon, is a Netflix original starring Stanley Tucci, Kiernan Shipka, Miranda Otto, John Corbett, Kate Trotter, and Kyle Breitkopf. This movie features terrifying creatures known as Vesps, who hunt their human prey by sound. Ally (Shipka), who has been deaf since she was 13, and her family seek a haven to escape the creatures, only to find themselves pursued by a sinister cult seeking to exploit Ally's heightened senses.

Viking Wolf (2022)

Viking Wolf is a Norwegian creature feature that is an intense thriller that follows Thale and her mother, who move to a small town where her mother has taken a job as a police officer. When a student is brutally murdered at a party Thale attends, she becomes a key witness in a small town that is haunted by other grisly murders.

Anaconda (1997)

The cult classic Anaconda follows a documentary film crew led by a snake hunter as they seek to find the legendary green anaconda in the Amazon rainforest. The star-studded cast includes Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, Danny Trejo, and Owen Wilson. The film spawned three other movies and a crossover film.
