Netflix will be releasing a new Western series on its platform in January 2025, and it's called American Primeval. If you want to know more about this Netflix show, keep reading because we shared all the important details announced ahead of the release date in early 2025.
On Oct. 29, Netflix officially revealed that American Primeval makes its premiere on Jan. 9, 2025. Along with the release date, Netflix dropped a handful of first-look images from the series that show Taylor Kitsch, Betty Gilpin, Jai Courtney, and other stars in action.
American Primeval is an upcoming limited series that was helmed by Peter Berg from scripts written by Mark L. Smith. Berg is best known for developing the sports drama series Friday Night Lights. He also directed and executive produced the Netflix drama miniseries Painkiller.
Check out the show's official synopsis via Netflix's press release:
"This is America…1857. Up is down, pain is everywhere, innocence and tranquility are losing the battle to hatred and fear. Peace is the shrinking minority, and very few possess grace — even fewer know compassion. There is no safe haven in these brutal lands, and only one goal matters: survival. AMERICAN PRIMEVAL is a fictionalized dramatization and examination of the violent collision of culture, religion, and community as men and women fight and die to keep or control this land. "
This is one of his projects under his first-look deal with Netflix that he signed back in March 2021. Additionally, Smith co-wrote the screenplays for the movies The Revenant and The Marsh King's Daughter. Berg and Smith also serve as executive producers on American Primeval with Eric Newman. Newman takes over showrunning duties as well.
Here's what Berg had to say about bringing the story of American Primeval to life via Netflix:
"We are very appreciative that Netflix is trusting us to take a big swing with American Primeval. I’m looking forward to taking viewers into the most dynamic, intense, and heart-pounding survival tale humanly possible. We are going into the belly of the beast."Peter Berg
It's a six-episode series exploring the origin story of the American West. With everyone wanting to stake a claim on this new world, there will be bloody conflict and violent collisions of cults, religions, cultures, and communities.
