Great news fellow Outlander fans! Back in January, we predicted that the sixth season of the time-travel drama would start streaming on Netflix on May 1, 2024. And it turns out, we were right in our predictions! The streamer has officially shared that all eight episodes of Outlander season 6 will be added to Netflix on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Verra good news indeed!

So how is it I made this very well educated guess? The streaming giant has had a pattern of adding new seasons of Outlander two years after that season's finale aired on its original network, Starz. With the sixth season coming to an end on May 1, 2022 two years ago, it was easy to guess (and we were hopeful!) that the season would be added to Netflix on that date in 2024. And thankfully, we were right. Nothing makes me happier at this moment! That Wednesday is definitely fully booked for me now.

Outlander season 5 recap

Ahead of the next installment dropping, we're giving you all the details you need to know about it, and a quick recap of what happened in season 5. Because as you know, so much happens each season and with it being two years since seeing the episodes, perhaps you don't remember everything. But that's what I'm here for.

Outlander season 5 focused on the war between the Regulators, spearheaded by the beloved Murtagh, and Britain. This was such a good storyline for Jamie as he was literally caught between two fires - his orders from Governor Tryon to find Murtagh and of course the fact that he's his godfather who he loves dearly. It all comes to a head at the Battle of Alamance where Jamie is forced to wear a red coat (ew) and Murtagh dies in his godson's arms in a heartbreaking scene.

Elsewhere, Roger gets into big trouble after he's caught hugging his distant family member Maggie by her husband Buck MacKenzie - who is the illegitmate son of Dougal and Geillis. Remember them? Because of this Roger gets beat up and hanged, though he survies it but is of course traumatized. It takes him a while to snap out of it, but eventually he does. The hardships for Roger and Bree are always present but they get through them together.

There was the deadly snake bite Jamie endured and almost lost his leg, and his life, Young Ian's return, Stephen Bonnet kidnapping Brianna and sentenced to drowning, and then the unfortunate and ugly kidnapping and assault Claire experiences at the hands of Lionel Brown and his men. THe end of the episode ends on a lighter note with Jamie holding his beloved Sassenach, but the trauma that Claire went through isn't easily going to just fade away. Phew! That was just briefly summarizing the season. Can you believe all that happened in just 12 episodes?

Outlander season 6 details

Season 6 synopsis and episodes

Outlander season 6 brings with its fair share of drama, struggles, and also lovely moments. Without spoiling anything, I will tell you that it's a bit of a darker season. As the synopsis suggests, the next dramatic chapter in the Frasers' story Claire and Jamie will have to fight to protect their home on Fraser's Ridge not just from the Crown, but internally thanks to some new tenants as well. We shared the official synopsis, as well as the teaser and trailer below:

"The sixth season of “Outlander” sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie’s fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task, particularly in the wild back country of North Carolina – and perhaps most significantly – during a period of dramatic political upheaval. The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which – as Claire knows all too well – is unwittingly marching towards Revolution. Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser's Ridge.

They must now defend this home – established on land granted to them by the Crown – not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care. For the Frasers and their immediate family, “home” is more than simply a site in which they live, it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives.

If Season Four asked “What is home?” and Season Five asked, “What are you willing to do to protect your home?” then Season Six explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created: when you become an outsider, or an "outlander" so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home."

Episode titles

This one is shorter, coming in at only eight episodes. But believe me, because it's shortened it's actually even more jam-packed if you can believe that. These episodes are already so crazy! The season had to be shortened because of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as Claire Fraser actress Caítriona Balfe's real-life pregnancy being two main factors.
