One Piece season 2 cast grows with 11 (!) new cast members
Whether you were already familiar with the franchise or new to the adventure series, the live-action adaptation of One Piece, based on the long-running manga by Eiichiro Oda, was undoubtedly one of the best releases of 2023. This adventure saga follows the thrilling journey of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of Straw Hat pirates as they search for the legendary One Piece treasure.
Ever since we finished the last episode, and our favorite crew set sail for the Grand Line, we've been eagerly awaiting news about season 2. When it first came out, the series captivated audiences with its vibrant characters, thrilling action, and faithful homage to the original anime and manga, garnering rave reviews and a dedicated fanbase.
Despite getting the green light for a sequel just under two weeks after its debut, we've mostly -- who can forget the awesome April Fool's spoiler video with Usopp actor Jacob Gibson? -- been kept in the dark about its progress. But this all changed this week!
We were treated to not one, not two, but three exciting batches of new cast member announcements, totaling 11 new faces joining the live-action adventure! These new additions are set to bring beloved characters from the anime to life, promising even more thrilling and heart-pounding moments for fans.

What is the plot of One Piece season 2?

From the recent cast announcements, it's clear that season 2 will honor its origins by embarking on the Grand Line adventure, starting with the Arabasta arc and diving deep into the Baroque Works criminal network.
To jog memories, this means the Straw Hats will:
- Reach the Grand Line
- Encounter a giant whale
- Meet two fighting giants
- Search for a doctor to join their crew
- Encounter and likely clash with the Baroque Works criminal syndicate
- Attempt to prevent the destabilization of the Arabasta Kingdom
While the beloved manga and anime inspire these storylines, the live-action adaptation may introduce its own twists to suit the TV series' format. Unfortunately, Netflix has not released an official synopsis yet, so stay tuned for updates!
Who is joining the cast of One Piece season 2?
As the Straw Hats enter the Grand Line, we'll be introduced to several new characters.
On June 25, 2024, Netflix's official X (formerly Twitter) account shared headshots of the actors set to portray the Baroque Works agents. This includes:
- David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3
- Jazzara Jaslyn as Miss Valentine
- Camrus Johnson as Mr. 5
- Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9
The following day, on June 26, 2024, Netflix announced three more characters:
- Giants Dorry and Brogy, portrayed by Werner Coetser and Brendan Murray respectively
- Crocus, the skilled doctor and caretaker of Laboon (the giant whale), portrayed by Clive Russell
And on June 27, they made their final announcement, revealing:
- Smoker, portrayed by Callum Kerr
- Tashigi, portrayed by Julia Rehwald
- Wapol, portrayed by Rob Colletto
- Dalton, portrayed by Ty Keogh

The Baroque Works agents
David Dastmalchian, known for his roles in various superhero franchises, will bring Mr. 3 to life in the live-action adaptation. His credits include Thomas Schiff in The Dark Knight, Kurt in the Ant-Man films, Abra Kadabra in The Flash TV series, and Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad.
Jazzara Jaslyn, a South African actress from Cape Town, will portray the gravity-defying Miss Valentine. She is recognized for her roles in Warner Brothers' A Cinderella Story and the TV series Professionals, where she starred alongside Brendan Fraser.
Camrus Johnson, an American actor and writer, takes on the role of Mr. 5. He is best known as Luke Fox in The CW's Batwoman and for voicing Philly Phill in the Disney animated series Firebuds.
Daniel Lasker, also from South Africa, steps into the shoes of Mr. 9. Apart from his acting career, he is a director, singer-songwriter, and former member of the boy band The Rockets. His notable works include Raised By Wolves, Abraham Lincoln, and Noughts + Crosses.
The 'Giants'
Portraying Dorry, captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates, is Werner Coetser, a South African actor renowned for his roles in popular TV series. He gained fame as Bernard Jordaan in the soap opera 7de Laan from 2010 to 2016 and later starred as Blitz in the kykNET soapie Getroud met Rugby: Die Sepie.
Brendan Sean Murray takes on the role of Brogy, the other captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates, in Netflix's live-action One Piece series. Brendan has appeared in Warrior and Raised by Wolves.
Clive Russell portrays Crocus in One Piece season 2. This English actor, raised in Scotland, brings a towering presence at 6'6" (1.98m) tall. His extensive film career includes notable roles in Sherlock Holmes (2009), Game of Thrones, and Thor: The Dark World (2013).
Callum Kerr, a Scottish actor, takes on the role of Smoker, a Marine vice admiral and Commander of the G-5 Marine base. Kerr is recognized for his portrayal of Wade Stellings in the TV series Monarch. British audiences may also know him from his role as George Kiss in the soap opera Hollyoaks.
Julia Rehwald joins the cast as Tashigi, a Marine officer under Smoker's command and his protégé. Rehwald, an American actress, is familiar to Netflix viewers for her role as Kate Schmidt in the Fear Street Trilogy. She also lends her voice to Celesta Kami in Disney's animated series Young Jedi Adventures.
Rob Colletti brings Wapol, monarch of the Drum Pirates, to life. Colletti is celebrated for his theatrical roles, including Dewey in the first national tour of School of Rock, Elder Cunningham in The Book of Mormon, and Roger in the 40th Anniversary Revival of Grease. His film appearances include The Many Saints of Newark.
Ty Keogh portrays Dalton, a Royal Guard under Wapol's rule. Keogh's diverse career spans roles in film and television, including appearances in 24 Hours To Live and the series Black Sails. He has also starred in the South African drama Die Byl and appeared in films like Accident, Blood Diamond, and Starship Troopers 3: Marauder.

When is Season 2 Coming to Netflix?
Filming for season 2 officially began in June 2024, as reported by What's On Netflix, and is expected to continue for at least 7 months until January 2025. Based on this production timeline, we anticipate One Piece season 2 to premiere on Netflix in 2025, likely towards the end of the year.
While the wait may seem lengthy, there's good news on the horizon. Rumors suggest that seasons 2 and 3 might be filmed back-to-back, potentially shortening the wait for season 3. However, Netflix has yet to confirm a renewal for the third season.
Adding to the excitement, reports indicate that Jamie Lee Curtis is being considered for the role of Doctor Kureha, with the showrunners crafting the part specifically with her in mind.
