Telling a decades-spanning love story, One Day is the type of show that'll have you experiencing an array of emotions throughout. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by British novelist David Nicholls, the story follows Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew who meet for the first time on the night of their college graduation in 1988. Although they part ways the next morning, their lives remain intertwined as they continue to stay in touch and meet up on the same day every year to catch up.
Ambika Mod portrays the leading role of Emma Morley. When we first meet Emma, she's an English major in university determined to make a change in the world. Then, over the course of 14 episodes, we watch as she grows, changes, and goes through the ups and downs of life. Ambika is a British actress who was born in Hatfield in Hertfordshire, England, but grew up in the town of Potters Bar. She's of Indian descent and is the daughter of immigrants. Both of her parents relocated to the United Kingdom from India. Her mother moved to the UK when she was a child while her father moved when he was in his 20s. In addition, one of her parents is an accountant, while the other is a veterinarian.
Unfortunately, Ambika's exact birthdate is unknown, but she's believed to be 28 years old. She ended up attending St Mary's College, Durham, where she later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Studies. During her time at Durham, she became interested in acting and sketch comedy and even went on to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015. She also joined a comedy group on campus called the Durham Revue, which she ended up becoming the president of in her last year.
After she graduated, she moved to London and began working various jobs while performing standup in the evenings. She later formed a comedy duo called "Megan from FR" with her comedy partner, Andrew Shires, and she started to see her career take off. She got an agent, took on a couple of small acting jobs, and eventually landed the role of Shruti Acharya in the medical comedy-drama series This Is Going to Hurt. She would later take on the role of Una Finch in I Hate Suzie and now Emma Morley in One Day on Netflix.
