It's a great day here at Netflix Life. Today, we celebrate another Netflix show's anniversary, and this time, it's an adult animated series. On Aug. 22, 2024, we commemorate the 10th anniversary of Netflix's first adult animated series, BoJack Horseman. Hip, hip, hooray!

Not only is BoJack Horseman Netflix's first adult animated show. It's also arguably the streamer's best one. The show premiered on Netflix with its 12-episode first season on Aug. 22, 2014, and people immediately swarmed the streamer to check it out. While the first season received mixed reviews once it came out, it's worth mentioning that the second half of the season received more of a positive response. The following five seasons received much praise from critics and viewers alike, with many people calling this show one of the best animated shows of recent years.

In fact, many fans and critics applauded BoJack Horseman for its dark humor, innovative storytelling, complex characters, character development, unique animation style, emotional depth, exploration of mature themes, etc. Overall, it was such a successful show during its six-season run, winning three Annie Awards and acquiring three Emmy nominations. The sixth and final season was released on Netflix on Jan. 31, 2020, and fans finally got to see how BoJack's story wraps up.

The show centers around the life of an anthropomorphic horse named BoJack Horseman. He was once a beloved actor of Hollywoo (a fictional town based on Hollywood) until the show that put him on the map was canceled. Due to his struggle to find new acting gigs, he begins to self-destruct, such as drinking and doing drugs excessively. Many years later, he decides he wants to revive his acting career, and in order to make this happen, he decides to write an autobiography with the help of a ghostwriter.

7x Emmy nominee Will Arnett voices the role of BoJack Horseman, while 2x Golden Globe nominee Alison Brie voices the role of BoJack's ghostwriter, Diane Nguyen. Amy Sedaris, Paul F. Tompkins, and Aaron Paul join them in the voice cast.

Time surely has flown by. I mean, we're still in disbelief that 10 years have passed since the show's premiere. It feels like just yesterday Netflix was announcing its first animated series for adults, and now we're celebrating the show's 10th anniversary. To really celebrate this joyous day, we'll be rewatching all six seasons of BoJack Horseman as well as the Christmas special on Netflix. You should, too!
