You season 5 is one of the most highly anticipated new seasons of a Netflix series. Unfortunately, production on season 5 just started in New York City in March 2024, which means we're going to be waiting a long time until the final season of the series premieres.
Luckily, Netflix has no shortage of good shows to watch while we wait for You season 5. The list includes one of the best shows of the last decade that was just released on Netflix in April 2024, another new Netflix show that's heartbreaking but incredible, and two older hits you have to watch if you haven't seen yet.
Let's get the list started with Killing Eve!
Killing Eve
Killing Eve is one of the best shows of the last decade, and now, for the first time, it's available to stream on Netflix. The series was just added to the streamer in April 2024, and it's already in the Netflix Top 10. If you haven't seen this series, you have to watch it on Netflix right now.
Killing Eve isn't that similar to You, but it nails the obsession themes! In the series, Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), an MI6 agent, tries to track down an assassin, Villanelle (Jodie Comer). Throughout the investigation, the obsession with finding Villanelle starts to cause problems.
That's the most simplistic description of this great show. It's so good, though! Oh and Comer are incredible in the series.
- Cast: Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Darren Boyd, Fiona Shaw, David Haig, Owen McDonnell, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, and more
- Seasons: 4
Baby Reindeer
Created by Richard Gadd, Baby Reindeer is a new Netflix series based on Gadd's one-man show and his life experiences. In the series, Gadd stars as Donny, a comedian who works as a bartender. After Donny offers a cup of tea to a woman, Martha, played by Jessica Gunning, during his shift, Martha begins stalking him, showing up to his workplace daily, sending hundreds of emails per day, and much worse. Over seven episodes, viewers watch Donny's life fall apart.
This is one of the most devastating series I've ever seen. It obviously has some similarities with You with the whole stalking storylines, but this show is much more than that. I do have to mention that there are some very disturbing moments in this series, including instances of sexual assault.
- Created by Richard Gadd
- Cast: Richard Gadd, Jessica Gunning, Nava Mau, Tom Goodman-Hill, Hugh Coles, and Shalom Brune-Franklin
- Seasons: 1
Ozark
Ozark premiered on Netflix in July 21, 2017, and was an instant hit on Netflix. It ran for four seasons over the course of five years before the finale aired in 2022. Overall, Ozark doesn't have that many similarities with You, but Jason Bateman, who stars in the series, has some Penn Badgley-esque tendencies. Plus, both main characters are virtually leading double lives and trying to make things work, albeit in their own ways.
The series follows Marty Byrde who is working on the side as a money launderer for a drug cartel. After his partner is caught and killed for stealing money, Marty and his family are forced to relocate to help the cartel launder even more money in a remote summer vacation town in the middle of nowhere. The town is already full of unsavory characters who don't like the Byrdes.
- Created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams
- Cast: Jason Bateman, Laura Linney, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Julia Garner, Charlie Tahan, and more
- Seasons: 4
Breaking Bad
Speaking of shows about characters living double lives, we can't go further without talking about Breaking Bad, one of the best shows of all time. When it comes to living a double life, we have to mention Walter White, the chemistry teacher moonlighting as a meth cook and later drug kingpin. Again, it's not that similar to You, but if you like You, I can pretty much guarantee you're going to like this series.
All five seasons of Breaking Bad are streaming on Netflix. If you still haven't seen this great show, there's never been a better time to get started.
- Created by Vince Gilligan
- Cast: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, RJ Mitte, Giancarlo Esposito, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt, Jonathan Banks, Jesse Plemons, Laura Fraser, and more
- Seasons: 5
