Netflix confirms You season 5 is finally filming with new set pic of Penn Badgley

It's been more than a year since the You season 4 finale was released on Netflix. Finally, after all that time, delays, and strikes, Penn Badgley and the rest of the cast and crew are filming You season 5 in New York City, according to Netflix.

The streamer shared the first look of Badgley, who stars as Joe Goldberg in the series, strolling around New York City on the first day of production on the fifth and final season of the series on Monday, March 25, 2024.

The first look included the caption, "Spotted: Joe Goldberg in New York City. The fifth and final season of YOU in now in production."

After the events of You season 4, the story is bringing Joe back to New York City for the first time since season 1. The second and third seasons were set in California while season 4 brought Joe across the pond to Paris and London. It's so exciting to see Joe back home, and this time, he's a lot richer after connecting with Kate in season 4.

Production is reported to last from March 25 until Aug. 1, according to What's on Netflix. That has not been confirmed by Netflix. We could definitely see production wrap sooner than that, or even later this year if there are further delays to the final season of the series.

In addition to the location change for season 5, there is also a new cast for the final season confirmed. Badgley is obviously back as Joe in the fifth season, along with Charlotte Ritchie, who played Kate Galvin in season 4. Anna Camp, Madeline Brewer, and Griffin Matthews have also joined the season 5 cast, according to Netflix.

Unfortunately, we're going to be waiting a long time to see Joe, Kate, and the rest of the cast in You season 5 on Netflix. The final season of the series will not premiere on Netflix in 2024. We'll be waiting until 2025 to see the new season on Netflix.

That's bad news for fans of this great series, but there's just no way that Netflix is going to rush post-production on the final season. It's likely that we'll see the season on Netflix sometime in the spring of 2025, about six months, minimum, after production ends this summer. That puts season 5, which Netflix will probably split into two parts, premiering sometime in the spring or early summer of 2025.
