Netflix is adding 19 new movies and shows this week (June 16, 2023)

A new week is here, and in addition to summer officially arriving this week, you can also look forward to a bunch of new movies and shows coming to Netflix. This week includes quite a few interesting new additions to the streaming lineup, including a documentary, all seasons of a popular murder show, and a new action thriller.

First up is Black Barbie! This documentary hits Netflix on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 and follows the story of how the first Black Barbie came to be. The filmmaker actually traces it back to their aunt who asked a very simple (but important) question: "Why couldn't Barbie look like me?" While following that story, the doc also gets into the importance of diversity and representation in toys, especially one as iconic as Barbie.

Trigger Warning and Dexter seasons 1-8 coming to Netflix this week

All eight seasons of Dexter are also headed back to Netflix starting on Wednesday, June 19. The "good" serial killer, Dexter Morgan, only kills "bad" killers, but also struggles greatly to keep his secret from his family and his friends. The only people who know who and what he is are other killers and his deceased father. Can he keep the secret from his friends and his cop sister, Deb? Oh and don't forget that he's also a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Police Department, so he's surrounded by cops most of the time.

Trigger Warning is also heading to Netflix this week. You can start streaming it on Friday, June 21. The action thriller stars Jessica Alba, Mark Webber, Anthony Michael Hall, and Alejandro De Hoyos. The movie follows a Special Forces agent who takes over her father's bar after he passes away. But she soon finds herself up against a violent gang that has taken over her hometown. Nice to see Jessica Alba back in action!

This week also brings Carol on Monday, June 17, and Kleks Academy and The Lego Batman Movie on Wednesday, June 19.
