For a long time, Dexter was one of the best shows on Netflix. But sadly, it had to leave the streaming platform once its departure date came. With so many similar shows coming out over the years, fans have begun to feel nostalgic and want to go back and rewatch the crime drama. Unfortunately, the hit show still hasn't made a return to Netflix. However, it is available to stream on another streaming service. That streamer being Paramount+.

It's important to mention that Dexter is only available to people who have the Paramount+ with Showtime plan. So, you won't be able to stream it if you have the Paramount+ Essential plan. You'll need to upgrade your plan in order to be able to watch the crime drama series on the streaming platform.

The Paramount+ with Showtime subscription plan can be purchased as a monthly or yearly plan. If you choose the monthly plan, you'll pay $11.99/month before taxes. But if you choose the yearly plan, you'll pay $119.99/year before taxes. You can also watch the series on Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, but only if you have the Paramount+ with Showtime add-on.

Your only other option for watching Dexter is by purchasing individual episodes or complete seasons through Amazon Video, Apple TV, Vudu, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store. The choice is up to you.

What is Dexter about?

Dexter is one of those shows that makes a great re-watch, as well as a first-time binge-watch. Developed by James Manos Jr., the crime drama centers around Dexter Morgan, a Miami-based forensic expert specializing in bloodstain pattern analysis. To many people, he's just an ordinary guy doing his job solving crimes. But in reality, he's living a secret double life as a serial killer, taking down the guilty. The way he sees it, he's ridding the world of those who have caused pain. Meanwhile, those around him, such as his cop sister and his colleagues, have no idea of the crimes he commits.

Michael C. Hall stars in the leading role of Dexter Morgan. For his amazing portrayal, he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Television Series Drama at the 68th Golden Globe Awards. Joining him in the cast are actors such as Julie Benz, Jennifer Carpenter, Erik King, Lauren Vélez, David Zayas, James Remar, C. S. Lee, Desmond Harrington, Aimee Garcia, and Geoff Pierson.

Here's what some critics had to say about the first season of the crime drama series via Rotten Tomatoes:

"Dexter isn't just clever and original, it's also incredibly funny, which is quite an achievement given its gruesome subject matter."

Hannah Pool from Guardian

"Every element expertly draws you into its protagonist's sordid world. The narration, a carryover from the novels, is indispensable and haunting."

David Bianculli from New York Daily News

"Dark, creepy but utterly compelling."

Tim Goodman from San Francisco Chronicle

If you can't watch Dexter for some reason, there are tons of similar shows on Netflix you can check out, including You, Mindhunter, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, Ozark and more. I'm sure you'll like these shows as well if you like the crime drama.

All eight seasons of Dexter are streaming now on Paramount+.
